Puckdoku is so hard, summer TV shows, and throwing stuff at celebs on stage

Ep. 501

The off-season is in full swing and there's no Oilers news to talk about, which meant there was plenty of room for shenanigans on the Monday episode of the Real Life Podcast.

Kicking off the Monday podcast, the boys gave the people exactly what you'd expect from an off-season episode of Real Life, meaning that they wandered all over the map before the show was even five minutes old. From Puckdoku being impossible to Chalmers' nerdy Wordle group chat to Wanye's ziplock bag wallet, this has to be one of the most random episodes of the pod that you've heard in quite some time. Trying to get the show back on the rails, the guys dove into some of the TV shows they're watching right now and how it can be a grind to fill your time when you're so used to sports taking up so much real estate. Changing gears again, the guys then talked about Oilersnation's night out at the Riverhawks game on Friday night and how it's always a great time down at the ballpark. Sticking with the Riverhawks, the guys walked through Thursday's festivities that will see Jay finally try to hit a home run at RE/MAX Field. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode with a discussion about celebrities having things thrown at them on stage and how that has to stop before they just stop touring.

Huge shoutout to this episode’s sponsors:

  • 583. Recapping a massive Game 4 win featuring a pop-in from Dooks

    01:03:28
It's Thursday afternoon after a HUUUUUGE Game 4 win over the Dallas Stars, the boys on the Real Life podcastThe boys started the Thursday episode of Real Life with a recap of last night's Oilers game after the boys came up with one of the most exciting outings of the playoffs. After being down 2-0 after 5:29, Edmonton woke up in a huge way and absolutely laid the boots to the Dallas Stars for a dominant comeback win.Changing gears, the guys started talking about the amazing collection of super fans that surround this team and how they're almost becoming celebrities in their own right. From there, the fellas welcomed Dooks to the podcast as a special guest to discuss his playoff experience from down in Australia. As you'll hear, Dooks is always a beacon of positivity, and it was a lot of fun to hear how he's experiencing this playoff run from the other side of the world. Finally, the guys wrapped up the Thursday episode of the podcast with a conversation about jersey purchases after Baggedmilk rolled into the studio wearing an Orlando Magic Shaq jersey. Interestingly enough, the boys have some pretty random jerseys in their collection but don't ever seem to wear them for whatever reason. Finally, the pod wrapped up with a classic edition of Chalmers keeping it 100 after he noticed that more bathrooms need to play music instead of leaving people sit in silence. Nation Real LIfe💻 Website: https://oilersnation.com/ https://twitter.com/NationRealLifehttps://www.youtube.com/@Oilersnationdotcom/ https://www.facebook.com/OilersNation/https://www.instagram.com/nationreallife/https://www.tiktok.com/@oilersnation SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!👍🏼Powered by @bet365. • 582. The gang checks in from Dallas

    20:26
The Oilers are getting set to kick off the Western Conference Final tonight against the Dallas Stars, and that meant the opportunity for an on-the-road edition of the Real Life Podcast. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a quick recap of their travel down to Texas after the boys took the red eye to Dallas for games one and two. Despite a long night of travel and very limited sleep, the boys' spirits were high, and everyone was excited about what was to come in the first game at American Airlines Arena. After a few minutes of arguing about whether or not Ryan McLeod should be in the lineup in favour of someone else after some costly errors at the end of the second round versus Vancouver, the guys put together a squad bet for Game 1 in the hopes of paying for some of their trip. As you'll hear, the boys are feeling good about the start of this series, and they are putting their money on manifesting a win. Nation Real LIfe💻 Website: https://oilersnation.com/ https://twitter.com/NationRealLifehttps://www.youtube.com/@Oilersnationdotcom/ https://www.facebook.com/OilersNation/https://www.instagram.com/nationreallife/https://www.tiktok.com/@oilersnation SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!👍🏼Powered by @bet365. • 581. Is there anything better than Game 7?

    58:17
It may be a holiday Monday, but that didn't stop the boys from heading into the studio for a Game 7 edition of the Real Life Podcast to get prepped for Edmonton's biggest game of the season. The guys started the Monday episode of Real Life with an array of topics related to the Oilers but didn't really relate to the task at hand. From Crawford's acting as the ultimate insider to the way we felt before and after Game 6, the boys tap-danced around tonight's game a little bit before finally getting to the task at hand for 30 seconds at most. The Oilers talk was quickly interrupted, however, by a quick chat about Scottie Scheffler getting arrested before the PGA Championship and how the story was so bizarre, given what everyone knows about him. The guys then talked about Jay catching a donair at Game 6 and how he was so excited to get one despite it not being the greatest thing he's ever eaten. Looking ahead to Game 7, the guys walked through their keys to victory and what the Oilers need to do to advance to the next round. From the steady goaltending to the power play to Edmonton's stars showing up, there is a path for the Oilers to win the game, but it certainly won't be easy. There's no doubt that the Canucks are going to bring their best, and it will be up to the Oilers to match that urgency. Finally, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with another look at the MLB's gambling issues after another translator has been tagged with a gambling controversy. That led the guys to spend a few minutes talking about the Toronto Blue Jays, and how that team is incredibly frustrating to watch given their inability to score many runs. Nation Real LIfe💻 Website: https://oilersnation.com/ https://twitter.com/NationRealLifehttps://www.youtube.com/@Oilersnationdotcom/ https://www.facebook.com/OilersNation/https://www.instagram.com/nationreallife/https://www.tiktok.com/@oilersnation SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!👍🏼Powered by @bet365. • 580. Celebrating the Moose Jaw Warriors, and yelling about the Oilers

    01:03:59
Is there anything better than a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast to help you close out your week? Of course not. This Thursday, the squad looked ahead at tonight's Game 5 matchup between the Oiler and Canucks along with whatever nonsense got in the way of the guys staying on topic. The squad started the Thursday episode of Real Life by discussing the Moose Jaw Warriors' sweep of the Portland Winterhawks, which won them the WHL Championship. Wanye and Jay are Moose Jaw lifers, so both guys were incredibly excited about the team's progress to the Memorial Cup.After a minute of Moose Jaw-related happiness, the guys immediately started yelling at each other about Kris Knoblauch's decision to play Calvin Pickard for a second straight game. Much like the last episode of the podcast, the boys were fired up and were not shy about voicing their opinions at extreme volumes. Finally, the guys wrapped up the Thursday episode of the podcast with a story from landlord Chalmers about how his tenant let a toilet run for the last month, and the water bill he got was unbelievable. Needless to say, it was a classic Chalmers rant to wrap up the podcast, and it had the guys in tears laughing about it.
  • 579. The Oilers lost Game 3 and the boys were extra spicy about it

    01:00:14
It's the Monday after a devastating Game 3 loss to the Vancouver Canucks, which meant the boys had plenty to talk about on the new episode of the Real Life Podcast. The guys started the Monday episode of Real Life with a random collection of topics that included trip cigarettes, playing soccer on asphalt, and how rough childhood sports were back in the 90s. If we're being honest, the boys were really just doing what they could to avoid talking about the disaster that was Game 3. Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, Chalmers ran through a list of issues he has with the team right now. From singling out Ryan Nugent-Hopkins as someone who needs to be better to calling out the Oilers' defencemen for their lack of physicality, no one was safe from this classic rant. Finally, with all of the negativity out of the way, the boys wrapped up the podcast with some positivity regarding why we think the Oilers can still win this series. Needless to say, the Oilers will have to be a whole lot better if they're going to climb their way back into the series and win it. And despite the negativity clouding the Oilers today, they're only down 2-1 in the series and very much still alive. OilersNation.comTwitterYouTubeFacebookInstagramTikTokSHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!👍🏼 Great Clips👍🏼Powered by bet365. • 578. Prepping for Round 2 vs. the Canucks, and the Kendrick/Drake beef

    01:09:07
It's the Monday leading into the Oilers' Round 2 matchup versus the Vancouver Canucks, which meant the boys had plenty to talk about on the new episode of the Real Life Podcast. Starting off the podcast, the guys started the show by critiquing Tyler's fashion choices after he showed up to the podcast wearing a fresh pair of New Balances. That led to a larger conversation about how fashion trends have changed significantly depending on what era you were born. Changing gears, the guys dove into the rap beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake that kicked off over the last couple of weeks and how it went from talking about who's the greatest to trading barbs that are way over the line. After walking Jay through the history of the beef, the guys then walked through the best tracks in the back and forth and who everyone thinks is winning. The fellas also discussed last night's Roast of Tom Brady and how it was an intense night of barbs for one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever do it. Given Brady's status as one of the best to ever do it, many folks were surprised that he would even accept the invitation to get cooked the way he did. Finally, the guys arrived at the Round 2 series between the Oilers and Canucks. Even though the series is still days away from starting, the back-and-forths have already begun on social media between two fanbases that can be spicy at the best of times. On the ice, everyone on the podcast thinks this round against Vancouver will be significantly more challenging to defeat than the L.A. Kings. Nation Real LIfe💻 Website: https://oilersnation.com/ https://twitter.com/NationRealLifehttps://www.youtube.com/@Oilersnationdotcom/ https://www.facebook.com/OilersNation/https://www.instagram.com/nationreallife/https://www.tiktok.com/@oilersnation SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!👍🏼Duraguard Fence LTD: https://www.duraguardfence.ca/👍🏼Powered by @bet365. • 577. The Oilers beat the Kings and are moving onto Round 2

    01:00:40
Is there anything better than a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast to help you close out your week? Of course not. This Thursday, the squad discussed last night's franchise enderKicking off the Thursday episode of Real Life, the guys got started with a recap of the first round and how much fun it was to watch the Oilers work through those five games and knock the Kings out again. From the way Game 1 featured a Zach Hyman hat trick to last night's power play dominance, the L.A. Kings didn't have many answers for the offensive side of the Oilers' game.Sticking with what went well in the first round, the fact that the Oilers were deadly on the special teams on the PP and PK was a major storyline in this win. The Oilers were basically a coin flip on the man advantage while also staying perfect on the PK, and that difference in execution was a massive difference-maker in winning the series.Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Tuesday episode of Real Life with a conversation about whether we'd rather face the Vancouver Canucks or the Nashville Predators in Round 2. Given that there are pros and cons to both teams, it was interesting to hear the boys given their preference on who they'd rather face. They also looked at tonight's elimination game in Toronto and wondered whether the Leafs will be able to extend the series to Game 7 or if they'll need to start booking tee times. 💻 Website: https://oilersnation.com/ https://twitter.com/NationRealLifehttps://www.youtube.com/@Oilersnationdotcom/ https://www.facebook.com/OilersNation/https://www.instagram.com/nationreallife/https://www.tiktok.com/@oilersnation SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!👍🏼Duraguard Fence LTD: https://www.duraguardfence.ca/👍🏼Powered by @bet365. • 576. Checking in from Los Angeles ahead of Game 4

    38:10
We're in Los Angeles for games 3 and 4 of the playoffs, and that meant the opportunity for a hotel room edition of the Real Life podcast. Starting off the podcast, the guys shared a lively recap of their shared experiences in Los Angeles over the last couple of days. From the way the quartet set up their room to the constant eating that Liam has been doing, the first few days of the trip have been filled with good vibes and great times. From there, we walked through our obvious lack of knowledge about the Los Angeles area, as Tyler learned for the first time that the greater LA area is comprised of a bunch of cities. Looking around the NHL, the guys spent a couple of minutes discussing the gong show in Toronto last night and how the fanbase is melting down about last night's performance against the Bruins. Finally, the guys talked about what to expect from tonight's matchup against the Kings and how excited everyone is about the opportunity to put a stranglehold on the series. Of course, the boys will have to play their best hockey if they want to take a 3-1 lead because you absolutely know the Kings are going to be hungry to even things up. 💻 Website: https://oilersnation.com/ https://twitter.com/NationRealLifehttps://www.youtube.com/@Oilersnationdotcom/ https://www.facebook.com/OilersNation/https://www.instagram.com/nationreallife/https://www.tiktok.com/@oilersnation SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!👍🏼Duraguard Fence LTD: https://www.duraguardfence.ca/👍🏼Powered by @bet365. • 575. Getting set for Oilers Game 1 Goat and Little Bro from Utah

    52:46
There's no better way to wrap up your Monday than with a fresh episode of the Real Like Podcast, and this week, the boys churned out a classic episode. The guys welcomed Goat and Little Bro from Utah to help us get set for Game 1 against the Kings while also walking us through what a potential Nation Vacation to Salt Lake City might look like now that the NHL is going. The Real Life Podcast kicked off this week's episode by welcoming the Utah boys to the podcast to talk about their first few days back in Edmonton and how Tyler told them we were recording on Sunday instead of the usual Monday. Seeing as Tyler wrapped up the regular season on a vacation, his dates were all out of whack, and the result has been details slipping through that he normally covers.Getting back to the Utah boys, the guys made their way back to Edmonton for games 1 and 2 against the Kings, so the boys spent some time talking about how excited they were to be back in the city and for the playoffs to get going. If you've never heard from these two guys before, they are the greatest human beings on earth, and the Real Life crew were thrilled to welcome them to the studio.Seeing as the Arizona Coyotes are moving to Utah for next season, the guys spent a few minutes imagining what a #NationVacation to Utah might look like. Gord knows we had a blast in Arizona this past February, but there's something incredibly interesting about having a new market to potentially explore if the schedule allows. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a Game 1 and how the Oilers are a deeper team than we've seen in a while and that could bode well for the team's success if they can play their own game. Knowing that LA will be doing what they can to get the Oilers off their game, it will be crucial for the boys to stay focused and willing to keep things simple.
