Minor Hockey Week Memories & Mike Stelter on The Ben Stelter Fund

Ep. 447

Remember all of those times when you wished Chris Chalmers would be on the pod more? Well how about this: he was the only one who joined Tyler today on the pod. They also called Liam in from the bullpen and had a nice three-man conversation on a whole bunch of topics. They started things off by talking about Chalmer's run through Edmonton Minor Hockey Week and Tyler had some memories of the iconic tournament as well. From there, they talked about everything that went down this weekend in the NHL like the Oilers beating the Canucks and Bruce Boudreau being let go as the Head Coach in Vancouver. How did the Canucks let this get as ugly as it did? They discussed.

After that, Tyler welcomed Mike Stelter to the show to talk about the launch of The Ben Stelter Fund and also, the upcoming Ben Stelter Memorial Tournament. Alec Card, one of the event's organizers was also there to tell people what they can expect from the tournament, which is coming up on February 16th. The Stelter family is doing some great work in the community all in Ben's name and talked about the impact of what they've done and how they're growing the fund.

  • 575. Getting set for Oilers Game 1 Goat and Little Bro from Utah

    52:46
There's no better way to wrap up your Monday than with a fresh episode of the Real Like Podcast, and this week, the boys churned out a classic episode. The guys welcomed Goat and Little Bro from Utah to help us get set for Game 1 against the Kings while also walking us through what a potential Nation Vacation to Salt Lake City might look like now that the NHL is going. The Real Life Podcast kicked off this week's episode by welcoming the Utah boys to the podcast to talk about their first few days back in Edmonton and how Tyler told them we were recording on Sunday instead of the usual Monday. Seeing as Tyler wrapped up the regular season on a vacation, his dates were all out of whack, and the result has been details slipping through that he normally covers.Getting back to the Utah boys, the guys made their way back to Edmonton for games 1 and 2 against the Kings, so the boys spent some time talking about how excited they were to be back in the city and for the playoffs to get going. If you've never heard from these two guys before, they are the greatest human beings on earth, and the Real Life crew were thrilled to welcome them to the studio.Seeing as the Arizona Coyotes are moving to Utah for next season, the guys spent a few minutes imagining what a #NationVacation to Utah might look like. Gord knows we had a blast in Arizona this past February, but there's something incredibly interesting about having a new market to potentially explore if the schedule allows. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a Game 1 and how the Oilers are a deeper team than we've seen in a while and that could bode well for the team's success if they can play their own game. Knowing that LA will be doing what they can to get the Oilers off their game, it will be crucial for the boys to stay focused and willing to keep things simple.
  • 574. Arizona's Final Game, Liam's Popcorn Addiction, and Playoff Plans

    01:04:48
With the regular season coming to an end tonight, the guys have a lot on their mind. First we Wanye, Jay, Liam and BM talk about the final game for the Arizona Coyotes before the ship off to Utah, breaking down their ownership, the broadcast last night and past teams in the NHL.They soon drifted away from the Oilers to talk about the cloud seeding and floods in Dubai and the Memorial Cup in the WHL which was soon derailed by Liam's admission to buying movie theatre popcorn, just to take it home. Without even seeing a movie! This lead to talk of our beloved Rexall Place and enjoying their last sips of legendary suds and sharing opinions on the outrageous prices of Playoff tickets this season.Would you ever consider going to an Oilers game alone? Maybe it's not such a bad idea. They then finish off discussing our future plans for the Playoffs where you can find us out on the road and who we would like to play in the first round. Then Wanye and Liam went on a rant about the recent movies they've seen.Exciting times as we wait for the final game of the regular season night against the Avalanche!💻 Website: https://oilersnation.com/https://twitter.com/NationRealLife/https://www.youtube.com/@Oilersnationdotcom/https://www.facebook.com/OilersNation/https://www.instagram.com/nationreallifehttps://www.tiktok.com/@oilersnationSHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!👍🏼 DoorDash👍🏼 Duraguard Fence LTDReach out to sales@thenationnetwork.com to connect with our Sales Team and discuss opportunities to partner with us!Visit www.nationgear.ca for merch and more.
  • 573. Urban farming, parking gate, and Connor McDavid is back in the lineup

    01:02:50
There's no better way to wrap up your Monday than with a fresh episode of the Real Like Podcast, and this week, the boys churned out a classic episode. The guys discussed Tyler's neighbourhood drama, urban farming, and the Oilers welcoming Connor McDavid back to the lineup after missing three straight. The Real Life Podcast kicked off this week's episode with a diverse range of topics. From Jay's dance with a 6mg Zyn to Dogpatch's creative use of leftover bread and discussion on the number of chickens one can own in Edmonton, the first 15 minutes were a whirlwind of interesting and unexpected conversations.Changing gears, we got the latest update on the drama on Tyler's street. Over the last year, his neighbours have been beefing in a very real way, and the story escalated once again this past weekend. The pettiness is rising to exponential levels, and the result has now been for the police to get involved. To put it simply, things are really getting out of hand.Turning the show back to the Oilers, the guys talked about Connor McDavid's return to the lineup after missing the last three with a lower-body injury. The captain is currently sitting at 99 assists on the year with the opportunity to hit the century mark, and that had the guys feeling bullish about betting on the game in anticipation that he hits the mark against the Sharks. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of the podcast with a little bit of betting talk and a Masters recap after Scottie Scheffler won his second career Masters tournament.
  • 572. Rap beef, Oilers wins, and Chalmers' Draisaitl dilemma

    01:12:22
Is there anything better than a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast to help you close out your week? Of course not. This Thursday, the squad discussed OJ Simpson's passing, the rap beef between J.Cole, Drake, and Kendrick Lamar. On the Thursday episode of Real Life, the guys started with the news that everyone was talking about: OJ Simpson died. That gave Chalmers the opportunity to test out a new Ghost OJ impression to recap the final days of his life. As you'll hear, the podcast started off like a house on fire, and it didn't really slow down much from there. Changing gears, the guys talked about the J. Cole and Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar rap beef. While Wanye thinks this whole beef is fake news, Baggedmilk and Chalmers don't care as long as the music is good. According to Worldstar's Instagram, Drake will be dropping a new diss track at some point Thursday, and that news had the boys excited that the song will be a banger. Turning the podcast toward the Oilers, the guys recapped this three-game winning streak and how Edmonton is starting to play some really strong hockey at the best time of the year. Last night's win over the Vegas Golden Knights was an absolute demolition, and the team did it without their captain in the lineup. Finally, the guys wrapped up the Thursday episode with a discussion about whether or not Leon Draisaitl would be able to drive a team on his own without McDavid being there as his partner in crime. The most entertaining part of the segment was that the other three guys on the show were not at all on the same page with everyone else.  👍🏼Bet 99: https://bet99-8390734.hs-sites.com/oilersnation-b99net-giveaway👍🏼 DoorDash: https://www.doordash.com/?utm_source=wavemaker&utm_medium=Integration&utm_campaign=DoorDash_CAN_Q4_2023_CX_Core_Integrations_NTL&utm_term=TheNationNetwork👍🏼 Snow Valley Aerial Park: https://www.snowvalley.ca/aerial-park/👍🏼Rainbow Valley Campground: https://www.rainbow-valley.com/Reach out to sales@thenationnetwork.com to connect with our Sales Team and discuss opportunities to partner with us!Visit www.nationgear.ca for merch and more.
  • 571. It's the Tyler & Wanye Show!

    47:26
Attendance for today's podcast was sparce as Jay was in Toronto, Baggedmilk was getting his whipped service and Chalmers was on the grind. That meant it was a Tyler and Wanye takeover episode of the podcast and the two of them had a blast. They kicked things off by talking a little bit about their lives before the nation when they both worked retail jobs. They told stories of theft, promotions, and the lessons that come from having real jobs. From there, they talked about the Oilers strong weekend and their pursuit of the top spot in the division. Wanye talked about how we seem to gloss over positive moments now and reminded everyone of how dark things were at one point in Edmonton. They wrapped up the show with some talk about their lives as of late and concluded a fun two-man edition of The Real Life Podcast.👍🏼Bet 99: https://bet99-8390734.hs-sites.com/oilersnation-b99net-giveaway👍🏼 DoorDash: https://www.doordash.com/?utm_source=wavemaker&utm_medium=Integration&utm_campaign=DoorDash_CAN_Q4_2023_CX_Core_Integrations_NTL&utm_term=TheNationNetwork👍🏼 Snow Valley Aerial Park: https://www.snowvalley.ca/aerial-park/👍🏼Rainbow Valley Campground: https://www.rainbow-valley.com/Reach out to sales@thenationnetwork.com to connect with our Sales Team and discuss opportunities to partner with us!Visit  www.nationgear.ca for merch and more.
  • 570. Oilers got stomped in Dallas, phone calls, and Oakland sports struggles

    01:07:28
Is there anything better than a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast to help you close out your week? Absolutely not. This Thursday, the squad discussed phone etiquette, the Oilers' horrific loss to the Stars, and whatever nonsense came to mind.Starting off the Thursday episode of Real Life, the guys launched into a lively debate about whether or not they're likely to answer their phone if you call. It's always a surprise to see where these discussions lead, and this time, it led to a revelation-there are a few guys on the podcast who will not answer a phone call if it comes in past business hours.Somehow, talking about phone calls led to a recap of Wanye and Jay's trip to Moose Jaw. Not only did they go to watch the Warriors win a couple of playoff games, but they also went to the casino to play some Blackjack, which led to a passionate conversation about their approach to the tables.Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, the guys discussed last night's debacle in Dallas. That game was supposed to be a measuring stick night for Edmonton, but what ended up happening was that they got demolished by a team that was better in every way. Needless to say, that loss was one of the worst the team has had in some time, and it was incredibly demoralizing to watch. Finally, the guys wrapped up the Thursday episode of Real Life with a collection of topics, including the Oakland A's moving to Sacramento, what everyone would do if they won the lottery, buying ice at McDonald's, and why the Oilers changed the way they run the 50/50. Did the boys stick to any of those topics for more than a minute? They did not. 👍🏼Bet 99: https://bet99-8390734.hs-sites.com/oilersnation-b99net-giveaway👍🏼 DoorDash: https://www.doordash.com/?utm_source=wavemaker&utm_medium=Integration&utm_campaign=DoorDash_CAN_Q4_2023_CX_Core_Integrations_NTL&utm_term=TheNationNetwork👍🏼 Snow Valley Aerial Park: https://www.snowvalley.ca/aerial-park/👍🏼Rainbow Valley Campground: https://www.rainbow-valley.com/Reach out to sales@thenationnetwork.com to connect with our Sales Team and discuss opportunities to partner with us!Visit  www.nationgear.ca for merch and more.
  • 569. The Oilers' playoff drive, betting on the Jays, and navigating April Fool's Day

    54:57
Monday means a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast is set and ready to launch you into the start of a new week. This week, the guys were discussing the Oilers' stretch drive, spring in Edmonton, and how this part of the year is one of the greatest times for sports.Kicking off the Monday episode of Real Life, the boys discussed the end of the Edmonton Oilers' 2023-24 campaign and how it's getting to the point where every game is exciting. Not only are the games exciting, but the boys are also playing some meaningful games down the stretch that still has them chasing the Vancouver Canucks for first place in the Pacific Division.Changing gears, the guys spent the next few minutes talking about betting on baseball after the new MLB season kicked off last week. One thing you'll learn as you get into betting on baseball is how far into the weeds you can get. As you'll hear, Tyler and his buddies go way out there when they're betting on baseball, and some of the bets they put down almost sound made up, given how random they are.Getting back to the Oilers, Tyler wanted to know who the fellas would name as the Oilers' MVP if we took Connor McDavid out of the equation. Even though McDavid has been undoubtedly fantastic, Tyler's point was that the team wouldn't be anywhere without Stuart Skinner. Had it not been for Skinner's incredible turnaround, the reality is that this season could have fallen off the rails. 👍🏼Bet 99: https://bet99-8390734.hs-sites.com/oilersnation-b99net-giveaway👍🏼 DoorDash: https://www.doordash.com/?utm_source=wavemaker&utm_medium=Integration&utm_campaign=DoorDash_CAN_Q4_2023_CX_Core_Integrations_NTL&utm_term=TheNationNetwork👍🏼 Snow Valley Aerial Park: https://www.snowvalley.ca/aerial-park/👍🏼Rainbow Valley Campground: https://www.rainbow-valley.com/Reach out to sales@thenationnetwork.com to connect with our Sales Team and discuss opportunities to partner with us!Visit www.nationgear.ca for merch and more.
  • 568. Tyler's illness, Wanye's love of shrimp, and even more love for Zach Hyman

    52:50
Is there anything better than a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast to help you close out your week? Absolutely not. This Thursday, the squad was looking at the start of the 2024 MLB season, the Oilers' matchup versus the Kings, and the horrific stories kicking off in the world of hip hop.Kicking off the Thursday episode of Real Life, Tyler walked the gang through the illness that kept him off the Monday episode of the podcast. As you'll hear, Yaremchuk gets a little bit graphic when describing his flu-related symptoms.Changing gears, the guy talked a little bit about sports, as the Oilers take on the Los Angeles Kings in a huge Pacific Division game, and the Toronto Blue Jays are getting set to kick off their 2024 MLB season. With baseball kicking off today, the guys looked at a few different stories from around the league, including the Shohei Ohtani betting scandal, the Jays' chances of making some noise, and what is going on with the Oakland A's.Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Thursday episode of the Real Life Podcast with some March Madness talk after news started coming out about some of the star players signing huge endorsement contracts. That basketball talk led to further discussion about the Oilers, as the boys square off for a critical matchup against the LA Kings tonight at Rogers Place.
  • 567. A tough weekend for the Oilers, poop phone, and the Shohei Ohtani shenanigans

    01:04:19
It was a tough weekend in Oilers land, which meant there was plenty to talk about on the Monday episode of Real Life. The real question, as always, was whether the guys would talk about the team or wander into topics unknown.Kicking off the podcast, the guys got started with a recap of Wanye's eventful weekend after an unexpected parenting challenge caught him completely off guard. As you'll hear, having children can be an adventure, and sometimes the result will be a disgusting mess you never expected.Changing gears, the guys got into some Oilers talk after what was a very difficult weekend in Ontario. After back-to-back losses in Toronto and Ottawa, the Oilers will need to check themselves in the mirror after some costly errors and poor ended up sewering their time in Ontario. No matter how you slice it, it was a tough weekend for Edmonton. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a look at the Shohei Ohtani situation with the Dodgers and how that story just gets more bizarre by the day. Needless to say, having this scandal break out so shortly after signing his monster contract in LA is the last thing the MLB needs.
