Ep 22: Dr. Daniel Amen

Season 2, Ep. 22

Dr. Daniel Amen, head of the Amen Clinics, brain disorder specialist, and 12 time New York Times best selling author is joining the Move With Heart podcast for the premier of Season 2! This eye opening conversation about brain health and what that means exactly is truly fascinating as we have no idea what our brain looks like until we get it scanned. Melissa and Dr. Amen start by discussing his journey into psychiatry, which led him to expanding his work and helping the world understand the importance of brain health. This includes a life of no drugs, nourishing with the right food, and most importantly giving your body and your brain love. His favorite question to ask is saying to yourself, “Is this good for my brain or bad for it?” With his work of helping patients actually seeing what their brain looks like through scans, this can help you to reverse age your brain by making the right choices for it.

They dive into topics such as marijuana, antidepressants, the epidemic around medications, and what supplements he recommends. They share their views on “cheat days” and so many more helpful tips for a happy and healthy life – all starting with the brain. Melissa asks what a day in the life of the Doc looks like, which starts with his other favorite phrase, “Today is going to be a great day” and the impact this can have on your outlook of life. His newest book “Change Your Brain Every Day” covers how brain and mental health are a daily practice. Get a pen and paper out for this one because you’ll want to take notes during this conversation!
