39. Missing on Mt. Shasta (Shasta-Trinity National Forest, California)

Ep. 39

An experienced outdoorsman set out to summit Mt.Shasta with two of  his friends. He became very ill with altitude sickness and the trip went sideways from there. He was last seen heading towards Lake Helen and was never seen again. His disappearance mirrored another man who went missing while hiking on Shasta in 1965, despite having successfully summiting the mountain over 40 times.

If you have any information on the disappearance of Carl Landers, please contact the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Department at (530) 842-8300.

Hikers who separate from a group statistically are four times more likely to die than group hikers who become lost and never separate. Many of these hikers that separate from their groups are still missing, lost to the wilderness. This is what happened in White River National Forest in 2005. Sources:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_of_the_Holy_Crosshttps://apps.colorado.gov/apps/coldcase/casedetail.html?id=1155https://www.outsideonline.com/outdoor-adventure/hiking-and-backpacking/michelle-vanek-mount-holy-cross/?scope=anonhttps://www.strangeoutdoors.com/mysterious-stories-blog/michelle-vanek
