Hampton Sides, IN THE KINGDOM OF ICE: The Grand and Terrible Polar Voyage of the USS Jeannette
Zibby is joined by historian, journalist, and author Hampton Sides to talk about his latest book, In the Kingdom of Ice. Hampton shares how this project was inspired by an assignment he researched for National Geographic and what role he played in establishing the upcoming Santa Fe Literary Festival. The two also discuss why Hampton is drawn to dramatic survival stories, who inspired him to pursue a career writing narrative non-fiction, and which sliver of history his next project focuses on. For more information on and tickets for the Santa Fe Literary Festival, check out their website here!

47. Zibby Publishing’s Start at the End by International Bestseller Emma Grey
24:49||Season 26, Ep. 47Australian author Emma Grey’s The Last Love Note kicked off Emma’s journey with our publishing house. I read the PDF on a flight when her agent pitched it for my podcast — and fell in love. We acquired the U.S. rights and published it to much acclaim including as picks of Book of the Month Club and Target Book Club. Then came Pictures of You, an intense story about coercive control, which was also a breakout hit. Emma’s third U.S. novel Start at the End comes out today! It’s about love, loyalty, second chances, artistic ambition, family and what ifs. Join Emma on tour and learn more here!

Three friends go in the woods where two of them plot against the third in a love triangle that shape shifts. Kat and I spoke about the book and then moved on to how she finds personal essays performative. (I mentioned that I write them!) Thoughts on our discussion? If you like the idea of hiking (even without moving from the couch), this is for you.
