Hello and welcome back to Movies that Make Us.

This week, we’re bringing back our Staff Picks show where each of us select different movies based on a theme. With Halloween right around the corner, we discuss our favorite creatures. Some of these creatures are friendly like Jake’s selection of ET, while some are straight out of nightmares like James Cameron’s Alien Queen that Tracy selected. Val explores the creatures that exist in The Mist and the monsters that hide inside the hearts of men. Each of us select three creatures that we love and can’t wait to share them with you!

What did you think of our selections? What are some of your favorite cinematic creatures?

  • 209. Minority Report

    59:31
Welcome back to another week at Movies that Make Us! AI is a burning topic right now and we want to talk about it for the next few episodes. The first one we discuss is Minority Report, the 2002 Steven Speilberg and Tom Cruise film about stopping murders before they happen. This film still holds up really well on a technical level and the morality of the film holds even more true today. It’s one of Speilberg’s underrated films and he’s firing on all cylinders here. From the cinematography, the script, the score, the acting, it all works. It’s a futuristic noir film that is worth watching again if it’s been a while. We want your feedback, so be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel, and then click the little bell to receive notifications when we add a new video or go live. You can also follow our Facebook page so you can receive notifications for new audio or video of our episodes. We’ll be giving away passes to upcoming films, so make sure you’re watching and commenting on our posts. As always, thank you for listening, and for now, we won’t see you at the movies…

    01:03:46
Welcome back to another week at Movies that Make Us! We’re back from our trip to Disneyland where we successfully completed a 10k (6.2 miles) of running through the parks, and raising money for American Cancer Society. We recap a bit about the race and then we dive into a movie you may have overlooked in The Holdovers. A curmudgeonly instructor at a New England prep school remains on campus during Christmas break to babysit a handful of students with nowhere to go. He soon forms an unlikely bond with a brainy but damaged troublemaker, and with the school's head cook, a woman who just lost a son in the Vietnam War. This film is one of our favorites from 2023 and we highly encourage you to check it out.We want your feedback, so be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel, and then click the little bell to receive notifications when we add a new video or go live. You can also follow our Facebook page so you can receive notifications for new audio or video of our episodes.
