UFC 331 has an INSANELY GOOD MAIN EVENT, I am drooling and not just because my jaw is messed up. But the rest of the card........honestly feels weak. Does that mean bad? Jean Silva continues to be well Jean Silva. Which is to say remarkably crazy and remarkably analytical often at the same time. He is truly one of the most bizarre fighters I have ever seen succeed at a high level. Salahdine Parnasse made waves in his UFC debut, MVP went out with a dull whimper and Oumar Sy failed in comical fashion. All that and more in Paris before we kick ourselves over to Glendale, Arizona for Noche UFC? Yadong Song did his thing, violence rained down and body were bruised in Shanghai and now the UFC heads to Paris for what on paper looks like another banger.I'm intrigued how the casual fan base will respond to this card, especially Salahdine Parnasse as a headliner. He's debuting at the top of the card and the live crowd will love it. Interested to see what the reaction from the TV audience is. We have the traditional Road to UFC Follow up with UFC Shanghai!These cards tend to be heavy on new or newish Asian talent (check), usually a main event with a Chinese Star (check) and a scattering of established Asian talent (check). We have an interesting main event with stakes (albeit a bit of a 2 true outcome nature), we have prospects, we have action fights. Honestly if this card had an actual co-main event it would be inspiring. UFC Apex 120 has come to an end, Quillan Salkilld appears to be the real McCoy, the real deal and the coming man at 155. That's pretty damn cool. Also Gigi Canuto and Carol Foro get all the love for putting on a war in the Octagon. The rest of the card was hit and miss, a bit heavy on results that were more about the loser (Darren Elkins, Billy Quarantillo, Amanda Lemos, etc) than about the winner which is never a great feeling (unless you really hate the fighter, I can enjoy a Colby Covington Beatdown).And we head to Philly, city of Brotherly love for a 2 title fight card but honestly for a PPV (or whatever new name the MMA community comes up with, WWE uses Premium Live Event....don't think it quite fits but probably the likely outcome) this card feels flat. There's some good violence with the likes of Joel Alvarez, Chidi Njokuani, Jalin Turner, Kauê Fernandes and Esteban Ribovics being pretty much a guaranteed good time. But there isn't much impact here on paper.
