Mental Health Mavens
The Neuro-sequential Model of Therapeutics
The Neuro-sequential Model of Therapeutics was developed by Dr. Bruce Perry. It is a developmentally sensitive neurobiologic -informed approach to clinical problem solving. It is an approach that integrates core principles of neurodevelopment and traumatology to inform work with children, families, and the communities in which they live.
This model examines how early childhood trauma and adversity can impact the organization of children’s brains during key developmental phases. As a child grows into adulthood, the effects from early adversity can have significant impacts in the areas of attachment, the ability to self-regulate, and particularly in the adult’s interactions with others.
