What’s this episode about ?

This podcast explores one of the most revealing scenes in Men? The Musical, the Personal Elevation event. We continue the story on from episode 10.Jennifer (our lead female character) along with friends Laila and Zahida have all arrived hoping, in one way or another, to discover something about themselves.

They’ve reached a point where they know something in their life needs to change, but they don’t know how to change it. They’re feeling stuck in old patterns, old habits, old ways of thinking and they’re looking for a new perspective that can help them move forward.

And perhaps many of them don’t yet realise that the greatest breakthrough won’t happen during one of the workshops. It will happen when they’re willing to look honestly at themselves with the new knowledge they will receive at this powerful personal elevation event.

Pamela and Steven introduce a thought provoking song from MEN? The Musical called It’s Your Life. - It asks difficult questions - It challenges excuses - It asks us to stop looking outward at others and begin looking inward for answers. Personal elevation rarely begins with changing somebody else. It begins with changing ourselves.

The Musical—the Personal Elevation event. Jennifer (our lead female character), along with friends Laila and Zahida arrive at the venue expecting a ‘comfortable’ weekend of personal growth and self-discovery. Instead, Jennifer unexpectedly comes face to face with Matthew, someone she’d hoped never to see again. (remember the blind date chaos scene episode 6?)What follows is both funny and awkward, however, beneath the humour lies one of the biggest lessons in personal elevation - It often begins with ‘discomfort’. Pamela and Steven discuss how many things in life do we accept without ever questioning them because of discomfort or a fear of change?www.menthemusical.comcontactus@menthemusical.com Produced by Paragon Creative Studios

The scene is funny because Jennifer’s reaction is completely out of proportion to what’s actually happening. Carlos, the salsa instructor, simply explains that in salsa the man traditionally leads and the woman follows. So, Jennifer should simply let her dance partner Paddy lead. For Carlos, it’s just a dance. For Jennifer, it’s apparently a United Nations summit on gender politics. There is of course a serious point; why do we frequently accept an idea just because that’s the way its always been done ? Do we often resist change? Is that a good or bad thing?www.menthemusical.comcontactus@menthemusical.com

The Musical, where the main female character wakes up in her apartment next to Sam , not in peace but in a panic, not knowing what has happened the the night before. Her behaviour is serving a hidden emotional purpose. Her addiction to her relationship with James has now led to her behaviour spiral out of control. She has been out drinking and clubbing, not to celebrate, but numb rejection, avoid grief, escape loneliness, silence intrusive thoughts, feel temporarily desired Addiction often begins with emotional escape, not substance dependency. Addiction is rarely about the substance itself. It is about relief.www.menthemusical.comcontactus@menthemusical.com
