20. Stuck in the Choice
24:12Choices! We all get to make them every day, whether we want to or not. But what's the story you're telling about the choice? Can you see all the options available to you? Do you make yourself a victim of your own choices? Do you think you're stuck with a certain choice with no way out? Do you feel trapped in the choice you're making? All these things affect how we feel and what we think about the choices we're making. They make us tell ourselves a story that often causes more pain than the choice itself does. Learning how to manage our thinking around the choices we make is an important part of the healing process.Today, let's talk about how we get ourselves stuck in the choice. I'll be talking about the choices, the thinking behind them, the pain they create, and what to do to deal with all this within yourself so that you can keep your power within you. The Power of Choice
29:03We all know I came from a sense of powerlessness and that meant that I wanted a choice. I wanted the choice to attach or not attach to the things that were happening around me. I wanted the choice to see the illusion or believe it's all real. I wanted to ground some of those spiritual principles that I came across into something that offered choice and put my power back within me. I needed to be able to believe in myself without needing to put anything outside of me. I did that.In this episode, I'm reflecting on some of those spiritual principles and how I shifted them to offer me a choice. I'm offering you the same choice. Heal or not. Attach or not. Engage or not. Take it on or walk away. Do it or don't. It's always a choice and that power is always within you.Have a listen and let me know what you think. 33:32Trying to justify the experience keeps you stuck. It's hard to create a rational reason for why things happen. So usually where we end up instead is defending the problem and arguing with the experience. We keep ourselves stuck in the pain.During this episode I'm talking about focusing on where your power is instead of where it isn't. What do you have control over in that situation? Where is your point of power? Hint; It's probably not out in the external world.Let's talk a little more about how to focus, what to focus on, and how to retain your internal sense of power regardless of what's happening.Don't forget to like, share, and subscribe if you enjoyed this episode. 28:23Have you ever made a pros and cons list where the cons list was miles long and you had 2 things in the pros list?Did you consider why that happened or did you just decide to give up on that thing and move on?There reason why our minds do this and it's because they are trying to protect us from the unknown. The mind's job is to keep us safe. One of the ways it does that is by trying to make sure we never end up in a scenario that is unknown or risky. If you give it the opportunity to make up reasons why not through something like a pros and cons list, that's exactly what it's going to do if you don't keep control over your mind. So, let's talk about making choices. Let's talk about how to stay out of the stories when we're making choices. And let's talk about the difference between making choices we want to make and making choices we think we need to make. Grab a drink and a snack, get comfy, and have a listen! You don't want to miss this episode! If you enjoy the episode, consider sharing it with your friends. 23:29My perception was pretty wonky back in the day because I was so insecure and focused on the problems with what I was doing. Some of the old stuff I made actually did pretty well. Most of the stuff I create now doesn't do nearly as well as my old work did. This episode I'm talking about my new book, The Art of Self-Mastery, and how it only sold a couple of copies. I'm talking about how my perception of that has shifted, what that means to me, and what I'm doing about it (if anything). I'm sharing with you what the painful stories I used to tell about my work created. I'm sharing with you what why those were important lessons for me.Only selling 2 copies of my book isn't a bad thing. It's actually a good thing. It's taught me a lot. I hope you'll listen to find out more.If you want to check out my book you can head to theartofselfmastery.info/the-book. The Story of Pain
23:56We all have many stories of pain that we can tell. Have you ever considered why you focus so much on the pain of the experience instead of the experience itself? In this episode I'm talking about the story of pain and how to shift our focus away from it. The funny thing with pain is that we tend to highlight it. Unlike positive experiences where we almost never highlight how happy we were, when things are bad we absolutely highlight how awful we felt. Why is that?Let's examine some of that today! Come hang out with me and have a listen!Once you're done, let me know what you thought! If you enjoyed it, please consider hitting the like button, subscribing, and sharing with your friends. It would really help my little podcast out! Thanks so much for listening! I'll talk to you next time!Love to all.Della
