1665 || what if the act of "choosing" is enough

I accidentally ritualized something that is typically mundane, and that, in itself, is a magical and empowering act.

Now, as much as I want to push society towards more “analog” and “slow” options because I genuinely think it would be good for us all to get off of these algorithms for good, it’s not the only way to opt into more conscious consumption.

“Consciously consuming” as a ritual, instead of a burden, can be applied to almost any aspect of life.

When I take a moment to consider the vibe I’m seeking, before engaging with anything, I find myself being more critical with what I engage with. I also find the process to be ultimately more fulfilling and rewarding.

If you are addicted to social media or streaming, this may be a difficult transition, but you don’t have to change everything about your habits, right out of the gates.

You can start with one intentional act a day. As a practice.

Quickly, you’ll realize just how much time and energy you’ve spent digesting shit that you didn’t even enjoy. You’ll start to notice how unfulfilled you tend to feel after spending hours online with no sense of purpose, and how it doesn’t always have to feel that way.

There is a tendency to think that what we see in the present moment will continue. We forget how often we have been astonished by the sudden crumbling of institutions, by extraordinary changes in people’s thoughts, by unexpected eruptions of rebellion against tyrannies, by the quick collapse of systems of power that seemed invincible. What leaps out from the history of the past hundred years is its utter unpredictability.  - Howard Zinn Rebecca Solnit's blog + newsletter: https://www.meditationsinanemergency.com/Rebecca Solnit's Books: https://www.rebeccasolnit.net/books.htmlDonate to the Palestinian Children's Relief Fund and the Sudan Relief FundRead Julie's Medium Blog.Support JULIE (and the show!)Support + get some bonus stuff over on PATREON.Get an occasional personal email from me: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTune in on INSTAGRAM AND YOUTUBE or TIKTOK.The opinions expressed by Julie Merica and Make Your Damn Bed Podcast are intended for entertainment purposes only. • 1700 || beg change from a world that needs some

    12:12|
title credit: Alkaline Trio or read today's episode, here. The only thing that has helped me to stop doom scrolling was remembering that worst people in the world want me to doom scroll. We've become inundated and confused and overwhelmed and scared. And that's by design. They're banking on us disconnecting. They've invested a lot in forcing us to tap out. I don't like people telling me what to do and how to think. You're gonna buy in sometimes, but when you realize it? Resist that shit as hard as you can.Action is the remedy to hopelessness. Hope is a verb.Someone once said, if you’re scared to lose your life you already have, and that stuck with me.If we want real change in the long term? That requires us to be comfortable changing something now.Things don’t change unless I do, and if I’m being honest with myself? It’s beyond time for a few changes.Future Hope: https://transitionnetwork.org/Read Julie's Medium Blog.SUPPORT JULIE (and the show!)DONATE to the Palestinian Children's Relief Fund AND THE Sudan Relief FundGET AN OCCASIONAL PERSONAL EMAIL FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM AND YOUTUBESUBSCRIBE FOR BONUS CONTENT ON PATREON.The opinions expressed by Julie Merica and Make Your Damn Bed Podcast are intended for entertainment purposes only.
