  • Topic 1 - This Week in Disneyland history
  • 1957: 
  • The Midget Autopia opens in Disneyland. It is the third (and smallest) Autopia track, following the Tomorrowland Autopia (1955) and the Junior Autopia in Fantasyland (1956). The Midget Autopia, located right next to the Storybook Land Canal Boats, is for very young guests who are too small to ride the other Autopia attractions. (It will close in April 1966 and be donated to Walt Disney's boyhood hometown of Marceline, Missouri.)

  • In a presentation to theater owners in Las Vegas, Pixar announces that the studio has added a movie about the Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos to its slate.

  • Mickey's PhilharMagic, a 4-D film attraction, debuts at Disney California Adventure. Taking place at Sunset Showcase Theater in Hollywood Land, Mickey's PhilharMagic is a 12-minute-long show featuring 3D effects, scents, and water, as well as a number of characters from Disney movies. DCA is the 5th Disney theme park in the world to have a version of it (as the very first PhilharMagic opened in 2003 at Walt Disney World).

  • All Grad Night dates through June 13th have been officially cancelled due to COVID-19. Still no opening date for the Disney parks.
  • Bob Iger been appointed by California Governor Gavin Newsom to become a part of the business recovery task force, a group of 70 highly-regarded business leaders designated to lead California out of the economic recession, along with people such as Apple’s Tim Cook and former governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
  • An 18 year old man was arrested after jumping over a fence into the DCA backlot. He was found by Anaheim Police wandering near Guardians of the Galaxy. 
  • The Mandalorian season 3 is already in pre-production. Season 2 is not set to air until October of this year. Variety magazine reported that “Sources close to the production have confirmed that creator Jon Favreau has been “writing season 3 for a while,” and that the art department, led by Lucasfilm vice president and executive creative director Doug Chiang, has been creating concepts for Season 3 “for the past few weeks.””
  • Disney is offering a free download through 4/26 of the “Fairest of All: A tale of the Wicked Queen” ebook. Visit books.disney.com and it will take you to the free download site for Amazon Apple Barnes&Noble Google or Kobo.
  • A “female centric” Star Wars series in development for Disney+. No details have been released yet other than it will take place in a different part of the star wars timeline than other projects.

  • Limited Edition Joe Rohde Adventurer Mickey Ear Hat has launched on shopdisney. “The ears are made to look like an aviator’s hat, with a faded deep brown faux leather exterior and a plush white lining. The steampunk-style goggles match perfectly with the compass-printed Mickey ears. The GPS coordinates on the left ear are for Mount Everest. The coordinates on the right ear are for Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, each with their respective opening dates!” -WDWNT
