Brands In Culture

Season 1, Ep. 1

Episode 1: Brands In Culture

"If you're on trend, there's a very high risk of being off trend very quickly. Being part of culture is being part of people's lives."

— Jordanne Young, Enid

What does it actually mean to be a brand in culture? It's a question clients bring to briefs constantly — and one the industry doesn't always answer honestly, or at least clearly. In our first episode of Made Possible, Parkview Creative founder Rachel Dyson sits down with two brand specialists who grapple with this question every day.

Guests

Hannah Jones-Walters is a multilingual strategic and creative thinker whose career spans brand marketing, cultural strategy and community building across agencies and in-house brand teams. She has held leadership roles at design agency 20Something and as Managing Director at KesselsKramer London, and most recently served as European Marketing Manager for wellness brand Ancient & Brave. She is Chair of UN//SCENE, the creative festival dedicated to fresh thinking and new voices in the industry.

Jordanne Young is a brand strategist, marketing consultant and founder of Enid, her brand amplification studio. She has helped shape, launch and grow brands including The Modern House, Hummingway, Heist and WellJoy, working closely with founders and leadership teams to build culturally resonant strategies that last.

In this episode we cover:

  • What culture actually means — and why it's harder to define now than ever
  • The difference between being on trend and being part of someone's life
  • Why good strategy is fundamental when you need to move fast
  • How brands build content engines — and whether they should
  • The case for longer, braver creative ideas over short-lived campaigns
  • Why the people in the room matter as much as the brief
  • Whether a brand can genuinely shape culture — or can only be riding the wave
