The Many Lives of Aleister Crowley & The Wizard Battle That Went to Court!

In a post Victorian London, a man was throwing himself into a world which intrigued and terrified him in equal measures.

With an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, he soon leant into experiments which would see him trying to twist the world he knew into something more profound, meaningful and worthy of his time on the planet.

This pursuit of the otherworldly would see him travel the globe but he always found himself tethered to London, unable to escape its magnetic pull and his pursuit of becoming the most powerful magician to have ever lived came to a head when he ended up having a spell casting duel with secret society members of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn which threatened to turn deadly.

This unconventional wizard fight, culminated in the police being called and the matter being taken to court which catapulted the purveyor of the dark arts into the public eye.

Throw into the mix a penchant for narcotics, an addiction to adult activities and the mysterious death of a follower in Italy and you have a potion for a life that would go on to shape modern day occultism as we now know it.

Today on Macabre London, we uncover the many lives of Aleister Crowley.

  • Who Was Aleister Crowley? Magician, Lover, Spy? Or a fantasist? | The Many Lives Of

    35:58|
In a post Victorian London, a man was immersing himself in a world that both fascinated and terrified him. Driven by an insatiable thirst for knowledge, he embarked on experiments aimed at transforming his reality into something more profound and meaningful, seeking to make his mark on the world. This quest for the otherworldly led him to travel the globe, yet he remained tethered to London, unable to resist its magnetic pull. The city's allure only deepened his love for Magick and fueled his ambition to become the most powerful magician ever. This ambition culminated in a dramatic spell-casting duel with members of the secret society, the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, a confrontation that nearly turned deadly and which ultimately brought about the group's downfall. The unconventional wizard fight drew police intervention and subsequent court proceedings, thrusting this dark arts practitioner into the public eye but little did everyone realise, things were about to get a hell of a lot weirder. Coupled with a penchant for narcotics, an addiction to adult activities, and the mysterious death of a follower in Italy, his life became a cauldron of controversy that ultimately shaped modern occultism as we know it.Today on Macabre London, we uncover part two of our exploration into the magical world of the self proclaimed beast 666 - Aleister Crowley.------------------------Podcast: https://podfollow.com/1180202350Macabre London is a fortnightly podcast and YouTube show that delves into London's haunted and gruesome history alongside discovering Macabre mini Mysteries from all over the world!Be sure to check out my other podcast, Killers, Cults & Queens with Cheryl Hole https://podfollow.com/queens---------------------------SUPPORT ME————————ONE OFF DONATIONS: Paypal - paypal.me/macabrelondonKO-FI: ko-fi.com/macabrelondonPATREON: www.patreon.com/macabrelondonAMAZON WISHLIST - http://amzn.eu/dJxEf1VMERCH! - https://macabrelondon-shop.fourthwall.comPATREON - www.patreon.com/macabrelondon——————————-Thank you to our executive producer patrons - Christina, Christophe, Lisa, M, Ravelle, Sally, Sam, Sarah, Terri, Teresa, Vee, VeronicaAnd to all of our wonderful £5 tier patrons...AmyAndreaAndrewClaire RClaire SCreepy PaperDavid RDeniseHelenIngeJoKathrynKellyLindalLiz RachelSabrinaShannonTalliThe Paranormal PrincessVeeZaraZozoLAMAnd thanks to all other patrons too!————————SOCIAL MEDIA---------------------------------------------Insta: @nikkimacabrelondonX: @macabrelondonTikTok: @macabrelondonFacebook: @macabrelondonEmail: macabrelondon@hotmail.comSOURCES----------------https://www.britannica.com/biography/Aleister-Crowleyhttps://www.amazon.co.uk/Aleister-Crowley-Magick-Wickedest-World/dp/0399161902https://amzn.eu/d/02IeRW3Shttps://www.findagrave.com/memorial/206060840/nuit_ma_ahathoor_hecate_sappho_jezebel_lilith-crowley https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abbey_of_Thelema
  • Charles Bravo & The Curious Case of the Unsolved Murder Mystery at the Priory

    39:14|
In a palatial South London home, a pained scream rang out into the night. As the residents of the home rushed to the aid of the man who had called out, the only thing they could do was watch whilst he writhed in pain. After the maid was sent to grab mustard and hot water to assist his gripe, it was plain to see that he’d been poisoned as his hands helplessly tried to calm his burned throat and everyone in the room knew that whatever happened next would be incredibly painful for him. After 3 agonising days, the man passed away but everyone who was in the house on the night of the poisoning was now a suspect and with the man having many an enemy, the murder case would unfold to become one of the Victorian Era’s most shocking and scandalous whodunnits.Today on Macabre London, we uncover the murder of Charles Bravo and the mystery at The Priory.Thank you to todays sponsor London Nootropics! • The Real Reason Victorians Were Obsessed with Death! | Victorian Mourning Practices

    33:15|
In the Victorian era in London, the city sat under a black shroud. The capital was in mourning for a lost monarch and its residents were ushered under the wing of sadness to join in with the bereft queen. As this sadness swept the nation, the resulting impact had a strange effect. Pair this with the recent industrial revolution which could make items faster and also had a habit of sending workers to an early grave, a whole industry was created which serviced those who had been touched by deaths’ boney hands or more importantly, those it left behind. Today on Macabre London, we uncover the era of a city in mourning. ------------------------Podcast: https://podfollow.com/1180202350Macabre London is a fortnightly podcast and YouTube show that delves into London's haunted and gruesome history alongside discovering Macabre mini Mysteries from all over the world!Be sure to check out my other podcast, Killers, Cults & Queens with Cheryl Hole https://podfollow.com/queens---------------------------SUPPORT ME————————ONE OFF DONATIONS: Paypal - paypal.me/macabrelondonKO-FI: ko-fi.com/macabrelondonPATREON: www.patreon.com/macabrelondonAMAZON WISHLIST - http://amzn.eu/dJxEf1VMERCH! - https://macabrelondon-shop.fourthwall.comPATREON - www.patreon.com/macabrelondon——————————-Thank you to our executive producer patrons - Christina, Christophe, Lisa, M, Ravelle, Sally, Sam, Sarah, Terri, Teresa, Vee, VeronicaAnd to all of our wonderful £5 tier patrons...AmyAndreaAndrewClaire RClaire SCreepy PaperDavid RDeniseHelenIngeJoKathrynKellyLindalLiz RachelSabrinaShannonTalliThe Paranormal PrincessVeeZaraZozoLAMAnd thanks to all other patrons too!————————SOCIAL MEDIA---------------------------------------------Insta: @nikkimacabrelondonX: @macabrelondonTikTok: @macabrelondonFacebook: @macabrelondonEmail: macabrelondon@hotmail.comSources-------------https://www.timetravel-britain.com/articles/london/cemeteries.shtml#:~:text=The%20first%20graveyard%20of%20this,opened%20in%20Bloomsbury%20in%201714.https://victorianweb.org/history/mourning/6.html https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-20782442https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nellie_Clifden
  • No One Wants to Live Here! London's Destroyed Borough That's Sat Derelict for Over a Century

    31:43|
At 6:52 on the 19th of January 1917, an event would occur which would change an area of London for decades after, irreparably damaging it. A munitions factory in the heart of the bustling industrial area of Silvertown had hastily replaced the production line of a former caustic soda factory and was now in the hands of people who didn’t know what they were doing with such a dangerous material. With world war one dragging on and driving the country into an ammunition shortage, England created several huge munitions factories to deal with the crises and over the period of 3 years, 3 of them would be reduced to smouldering ruins when their stock exploded. Today on Macabre London, we uncover the story of the Silvertown Explosion.------------------------Podcast: https://podfollow.com/1180202350Macabre London is a fortnightly podcast and YouTube show that delves into London's haunted and gruesome history alongside discovering Macabre mini Mysteries from all over the world!Be sure to check out my other podcast, Killers, Cults & Queens with Cheryl Hole https://podfollow.com/queens---------------------------SUPPORT ME————————ONE OFF DONATIONS: Paypal - paypal.me/macabrelondonKO-FI: ko-fi.com/macabrelondonPATREON: www.patreon.com/macabrelondonAMAZON WISHLIST - http://amzn.eu/dJxEf1VMERCH! - https://macabrelondon-shop.fourthwall.comPATREON - www.patreon.com/macabrelondon——————————-Thank you to our executive producer patrons - Christina, Christophe, Lisa, M, Ravelle, Sally, Sam, Sarah, Terri, Teresa, Vee, VeronicaAnd to all of our wonderful £5 tier patrons...AmyAndreaAndrewClaire RClaire SCreepy PaperDavid RDeniseHelenIngeJoKathrynKellyLindalLiz RachelSabrinaShannonTalliThe Paranormal PrincessVeeZaraZozoLAMAnd thanks to all other patrons too!————————SOCIAL MEDIA---------------------------------------------Insta: @nikkimacabrelondonX: @macabrelondonTikTok: @macabrelondonFacebook: @macabrelondonEmail: macabrelondon@hotmail.comSources-------------http://www.dorsetlife.co.uk/2006/08/bournemouths-most-sensational-murder/#:~:text=To%20make%20matters%20worse%2C%20on,a%20divorc%C3%A9e%20half%20his%20age.https://archive.org/details/in.ernet.dli.2015.173615/page/n13/mode/2uphttps://www.findagrave.com/memorial/195058761/florence-eleanor-rattenburyhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francis_Rattenburyhttps://www.canadashistory.ca/explore/politics-law/the-architect-the-ladyhttps://montecristomagazine.com/community/the-outrageous-life-and-death-of-francis-rattenburyhttps://www.canadashistory.ca/explore/politics-law/the-architect-the-lady

  • The Violent Female Terrorists That The IRA copied! | The EXPLOSIVE Fight To Win The Vote

    59:47|
The Suffragettes were far more deadly than you think. These courageous and brave women set about learning how to fight war like men did and then, they beat them at their own game. Often dumbed down in later years, the suffragettes militant campaign was extensive, terrifying and effective. The only thing that stopped these women from winning the vote with violent tactics was a little thing called World War One! Today on Macabre London and our final in this four part series, we uncover the Militancy of the Suffragettes and how they used EXPLOSIVE tactics to win the vote. This is part four in my industrial revolution / Suffragette series - episode one is here: https://youtu.be/X-skf7cLV0EThank you to todays sponsor London Nootropics! • The Physical Fight For The Vote! SUFFRAGETTES Beaten By POLICE on orders from WINSTON CHURCHILL

    48:35|
300 women were penned into parliament square and thrown to the mercy of the male crowd and given the order to "Do with them as they wished" This violent assault lasted 6 hours and unarmed women were beaten, attacked and then arrested all because they wanted their cry of "Votes For Women" to be heard! On part 3 of our Suffragette series we take a look at the bitter battle of Black Friday and the turning point in the campaign to gain the female vote. The 1800's ushered in a new way of life for everyone and the Industrial Revolution wasn't called that just because of the machines. This new reign of technology heralded in a new era in workers rights or in fact highlighted that...there were none! Pair this with the fact that only 4500 men in England were allowed to vote, this meant working class people had no say in what happened to them and they were angry! Today on Macabre London, we uncover Black Friday, an event which made the gentle suffragettes turn to violence all in the name of gaining the vote. • A Taxidermied Man Helped Women Get the Vote? | The Formation Of The Suffragettes

    25:47|
What does a taxidermied man have to do with women getting the vote? Well, as it turns out, quite a lot! However, a new way of thinking was making it's way into parliament and that was because of a now taxidermied man who lived in a case...Today on Macabre London, we uncover the origins of the women's suffrage movement and the path to the universal vote. This is part two in my industrial revolution / Suffragette series - episode one is here: https://youtu.be/X-skf7cLV0E------------------------Podcast: https://podfollow.com/1180202350Macabre London is a fortnightly podcast and YouTube show that delves into London's haunted and gruesome history alongside discovering Macabre mini Mysteries from all over the world!Be sure to check out my other podcast, Killers, Cults & Queens with Cheryl Hole https://podfollow.com/queens---------------------------SUPPORT ME————————ONE OFF DONATIONS: Paypal - paypal.me/macabrelondonKO-FI: ko-fi.com/macabrelondonPATREON: www.patreon.com/macabrelondonAMAZON WISHLIST - http://amzn.eu/dJxEf1VMERCH! - https://macabrelondon-shop.fourthwall.comPATREON - www.patreon.com/macabrelondon——————————-Thank you to our executive producer patrons - Christina, Christophe, Lisa, M, Ravelle, Sally, Sam, Sarah, Terri, Teresa, Vee, VeronicaAnd to all of our wonderful £5 tier patrons...Lindal Victoria ZozoLAMLucy Talli Claire Verena Inge Kim Amy ClaireAndreaKathryn Jo David ShannonCreepy PaperRachelDeniseHelenSabrinaAndrew And thanks to all other patrons too!————————SOCIAL MEDIA---------------------------------------------Insta: @nikkimacabrelondonX: @macabrelondonTikTok: @macabrelondonFacebook: @macabrelondonEmail: macabrelondon@hotmail.comSources-------------https://blogs.lse.ac.uk/lsehistory/2023/03/28/remembering-the-suffragettes-black-friday/#:~:text=Over%20100%20women%20were%20arrested,modern%20day%20Parliament%20in%20colour.https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/discover/virtual-visit/podcasts/women-and-power-serieshttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utilitarianismhttps://www.gov.uk/government/history/past-prime-ministers/james-ramsay-macdonald#:~:text=Born%2012%20October%201866%2C%20James,from%20a%20working%20class%20family.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1842_general_strike#:~:text=The%201842%20general%20strike%2C%20also,to%20South%20Wales%20and%20Cornwall.https://www.parliament.uk/about/living-heritage/transformingsociety/electionsvoting/womenvote/parliamentary-collections/1866-suffrage-petition/presenting-the-petition/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sophia_Duleep_Singhhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reform_Act_1832
