Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990)
"Fred, what we want is, I think, what everyone wants, and what you and your viewers have: civilization."
Gremlins 2: Here they grow again (1990) might not be the comedy-horror sequel to break the mould, bit it certainly was the one to become a cult-classic. Where else can you see the high-camp of hundreds of gremlins singing New York, New York?
Damien (@damoo_la) and his mate Chris (@sumo_21) talk about the film that dared to parody Trump before SNL and the problematic nature of the 90s. Perhaps we realise that Gremlins 2 was more prescient than we thought as we compare it to our own experiences on the corporate laddr

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992)
01:04:04|As part of a series of bonus episodes, Camp Scary and Squee is joining the Lowbrow Lowdown Universe, starting with Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992)."Admit it, Buffy. Aren't there times when you just feel... less than fresh?" Were you ever obsessed by a movie when you were a teenager? We were. But is all that nostalgia clouding our vision of this camp-horror classic? And was it really as good as we remember?Damien is joined by fabulous friend, Emma to talk all about Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992). And these two Aussies try to unpick if this movie gave them unrealistic expectations about life as an American high-schooler, cheerleading and the role of handkerchiefs in dramatic death scenes. Most importantly, Sarah Michelle Gellar will always be Buffy Summers.Movies and television shows named in this episode:Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992)Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003)Note: It turns out that setting up a home studio for a podcast is a journey. 01:17:32|"Ok, I'm drawing a line in the fucking sand. Do NOT read the Latin!" This is the horror fan's horror movie, because it's a love letter to and a critique of the genre. Does that make it good though? Well that's the question, because this is a genre ripe with people who say that if it doesn't follow the rules, then it's just not cricket... I mean horror.Damien is joined by the always insightful Dave to talk all about The Cabin in the Woods (2011). Because when it comes to horror, we want to see the most self-aware, self-referential, up it's own ass horror movie - and you know what.. we love it!Check out Dave's podcast, the Brewery Street Playground.Movies and television shows named in this episode:The Cabin in the Woods (2011)The Exorcist (1973)Evil Dead (1981)Doll House (2009-2010)Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003)Cloverfield (2008)Ringu (1998)Follow Camp, Scary and Squee on Instagram and Twitter: @campscarypod.Introduction music from the Youtube Audio Library: Groove Tube by Audio Hertz.Scream (1996)
01:09:22|"What's your favourite scary movie?" You know that feeling when you love a movie, and you find out your friend has never seen it? The level of anxiety and anticipation as you get them to watch it for the first time, praying that they love it.Well, Link has never seen Scream (1996)! And continuing our theme of love letters to the horror genre, it seemed like the perfect film to introduce him to the genre. Will he love it? Or will I be bitterly disappointed?Damien O'Meara is joined by Lincoln Law to find out if Scream (1996) really is that good, or perhaps teenage Damo has blinded grown-up Damo to what this really is. Does it hold up?You can hear more fabulous quips from Link on Twitter: @Link_Law.Podcast Mascot Stella the Staffy makes a noisy appearance towards the end.Movies and television shows named in this episode:Psycho (1960)The Hills Have Eyes (1977)Halloween (1978)A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)Scream (1996)I know What you Did Last Summer (1997)Final Destination (2000)Scary Movie (2000)Scooby Doo (2002)Tenet (2020)Follow Camp, Scary and Squee on Instagram and Twitter: @campscarypod.Introduction music from the Youtube Audio Library: Groove Tube by Audio Hertz.Host (2020)
59:07|"What if we're not lucky?" Damien O'Meara is joined by Horror Maven, Lisa Rufus to talk all about Host (2020). This is going to ruin Zoom meetings for work on Monday. While 2020 has delivered its fair share of crappy times, Director, Rob Savage found a great opportunity, a 56 minute long horror movie, filmed over Zoom... Host (2020) is a beacon of innovation and terror that we needed to survive this bleak excuse for a year.Find out more about Lisa Rufus on her website.Follow Lisa on Instagram and Twitter: @ThatBlogChick.Lisa has contributed to a book that you can pre-order: Hannibal for Dinner.Movies and television shows named in this episode:Evil Dead (1981)Jaws (1975)The Blair Witch Project (1999)Creep (2014)Chronicle (2012)Searching (2018)The Den (aka Hacked) (2013)Unfriended: Dark Web (2018)The Cabin in the Woods (2011)Follow Camp, Scary and Squee on Instagram and Twitter: @campscarypod.Introduction music from the Youtube Audio Library: Groove Tube by Audio Hertz.Halloween (1978)
01:01:29|"He had the blackest eyes. The devil's eyes."Halloween (1978) is a horror film that follows the rules with the unstoppable Michael Myers. Perhaps more accurately, this American classic starring Jamie Lee Curtis is a scary movie that sets the rules. And these unwritten rules of the horror genre are something filmmakers and audiences alike are still trying to shake more than 40 years later!Camp, Scary and Squee goes international when Damien (@damoo_la) is joined by his old friend Frazer, all the way from Scotland to talk about how much they love Halloween (1978).Movies and television shows named in this episode:Halloween (1978)Halloween 2 (1981)Halloween (2018)Jaws (1975)Alien (1979)The Terminator (1984)Hostel (2005)Saw (2004)Scream (1996)Follow Camp, Scary and Squee on Instagram and Twitter: @campscarypod.Introduction music from the Youtube Audio Library: Groove Tube by Audio Hertz.Teeth (2007)
55:13|"It's true! Vagina dentata!" Damien is joined by his friend Nyari to find out why she thinks the horror-comedy film, Teeth (2007) is a film everyone should see. Directed by Mitchell Lichtenstein and starring Jess Weixler, John Hensley and Lenny von Dohlen, this film poses the question: What if vagina's evolved to have teeth?Think about how the world would change. How cultural ideas of power would change. But right at the end, Nyari makes a point that brings it all into perspective.Movies and television shows named in this episode:Teeth (2007)The Incredibles (2004)Content note: This episode includes discussion of rape and sexual violence.Follow Camp, Scary and Squee on Instagram and Twitter: @campscarypod.Introduction music from the Youtube Audio Library: Groove Tube by Audio Hertz.Train to Busan (2016)
01:32:42|"Dad, you only care about yourself. That's why mommy left"When it comes to zombie horror, I'm often a purist for the shuffle zombie over the sprinting zombie. But Sang-ho Yeong's Korean horror, Train to Busan (2016) might just be the exception to the rule. This film knows how to keep the pace going, engage with the human condition and keep the the walking dead as a consistent and frightening threat.Damien O'Meara is joined by horror aficionado, Daniel Clarke to talk about the incredible Train to Busan (2016).Follow Daniel on Instagram: @abrewtifulboyDaniel highly recommends our podcast friends at Wonderfully Done.Movies, television shows and books named in this episode:Max Brooks' Zombie Survival GuideOldboy (2003)#Alive (2020)Peninsula (2020)Kingdom (2019 - current)Lovecraft Country (2020)Follow Camp, Scary and Squee on Instagram and Twitter: @campscarypod.Introduction music from the Youtube Audio Library: Groove Tube by Audio Hertz. The Addams Family (1991)
