From Muse to Master: An Angel Purging the Dæmons - Katya

Season 2, Ep. 13

Katya began practicing art later in life, first modeling for figure drawing sessions and then attending as well. Eventually pursuing a full studio practice, she elevated to a level of fantastically expressive work in a very short time. Much of her work focuses on figures and bodies that are highly distorted and exaggerated, often portraying dark, anxious, and uncomfortable themes such as isolation, anxiety, and the sense of performance in daily life. In a Jungian way, by not hiding from the darkness she is able to move with light.

  • 11. Scholar to Creator: The Art of Making Artists with Amy Kells

    01:12:51||Season 2, Ep. 11
    Amy Kells is one of 1980's longest running artists and an unfiltered, wide-open-throttle creative to her core. Believing that all people possess an artistic drive from birth, she never saw herself going that direction as a child. But a combination of skill, fortunate intervention, and having tested alternative waters eventually led her to pivot halfway through school from academia to a fine arts degree. Whether it's her own practice, nurturing the education of the next generation of art students, coordinating artists for live painting events, showcasing her skills to stoke the crowd, or leading art workshops, Amy lives her philosophy: "I don't make art so much as I make artists."https://www.amykells.cominsta: amykells https://www.location1980gallery.com Insta: location1980 Fortune co-founded Location 1980 over thirteen years ago and practices his own form of impressionism, with a special passion for plein air painting.https://www.jessefortune.comInsta: fortuneartist Ringman has been an artist at Location 1980 for over four years and enjoys communicating through humor in art, with his primary media being neon and steelhttps://www.eriktclayton.comInsta: erik.t.clayton

    56:34||Season 2, Ep. 10
    Nancy Anderson and Ruth Geller have been longtime friends of the studio, and have the types of art careers we love to feature: they have both practiced art consistently for decades, evolving through styles and media as mastery of one led to the search for new challenges. Having participated in exhibitions, won awards, and moved around the country, neither seeks the art "scene" so talked about by laymen and portrayed endlessly in Hollywood. You may be standing next to a great artist in the grocery store, and not even know it.Nancy Anderson: https://www.nancyandersonart.com  insta: ntandersonartRuth Geller:insta: ruthgeller77https://www.location1980gallery.com Insta: location1980 Fortune co-founded Location 1980 over thirteen years ago and practices his own form of impressionism, with a special passion for plein air painting.https://www.jessefortune.comInsta: fortuneartist Ringman has been an artist at Location 1980 for over four years and enjoys communicating through humor in art, with his primary media being neon and steelhttps://www.eriktclayton.comInsta: erik.t.clayton

    01:31:49||Season 2, Ep. 9
    Having lived all throughout the USA's west coast and a span in Oz, she has traversed the highs of sold out exhibitions and the lows of residing in garages clandestinely. The art world is one that will by turns exalt you and kick you in the chin, and few embody the will to take a lickin' and keep on tickin' with the same humor and aplomb as Jackie Danger.https://www.jackiedanger.cominsta: jackie.danger.arthttps://www.location1980gallery.com Insta: location1980 Fortune co-founded Location 1980 over thirteen years ago and practices his own form of impressionism, with a special passion for plein air painting.https://www.jessefortune.comInsta: fortuneartist Ringman has been an artist at Location 1980 for over four years and enjoys communicating through humor in art, with his primary media being neon and steelhttps://www.eriktclayton.comInsta: erik.t.clayton

    58:31||Season 2, Ep. 8
    Hailing from New York, cutting her teeth in San Francisco, and making SoCal her home, Tracey’s art practice includes large scale murals, traditional fine art painting, and gallery operation. After schooling in graphic design, she decided to go into art production for herself and never stepped foot in an ad agency. She continues to this day, with an approach to life that focuses on simple substance rather than the complex superficiality that is so commonly found in the world. If you want to work with her, don’t send a text – get on the horn and have a conversation!  http://www.myartandsoul.net/ https://www.location1980gallery.com Insta: location1980 Fortune co-founded Location 1980 over thirteen years ago and practices his own form of impressionism, with a special passion for plein air painting.https://www.jessefortune.comInsta: fortuneartist Ringman has been an artist at Location 1980 for over four years and enjoys communicating through humor in art, with his primary media being neon and steelhttps://www.eriktclayton.comInsta: erik.t.clayton

  • 6. Extreme Adventures with a Maverick Artist

    01:48:41||Season 2, Ep. 6
    Today the guys chat with an old friend of Location 1980, Bert Esenherz. He was doing out-of-the-box feats that cannot be classified as performance art, comedy, or improv alone, decades before broadband and social media made this kind of thing commonplace. Many of his events are truly art for art's sake, and evidence mastery of the art of living: that is to say, demonstrating (and testing) just how far this thing called life can be taken. This is all, of course, in addition to his skills as a painter, set builder, producer, and videographer. Bert tells his stories so casually, it's almost easy to miss how extraordinary they are! One of the pod's wildest guests so far.Only a sliver of his exploits are covered in this episode, check out his website for more.Bert Esenherzhttps://esenherz.com/Saatchi: https://www.saatchiart.com/esenherzhttps://www.instagram.com/esenherz https://www.location1980gallery.comhttps://www.instagram.com/location1980 Fortune co-founded Location 1980 over thirteen years ago and practices his own form of impressionism, with a special passion for plein air painting.https://www.jessefortune.comhttps://www.instagram.com/fortuneartist Ringman has been an artist at Location 1980 for over three years and enjoys communicating through humor in art, with his primary media being neon and steel.https://www.eriktclayton.comhttps://www.instagram.com/eriktclayton
