Calls are growing for Meath County Council to go back to the drawing board on plans to tackle traffic congestion in Julianstown. Local Fianna Fáil Councillor Stephen McKee says many residents have lost confidence in the current consultation process and are unconvinced by the four options put forward to ease congestion through the village.McKee believes the issue needs a much broader approach, including examining new road links to the M1, the impact of toll avoidance, and investing in public transport and local employment to reduce commuter traffic. He says more than 22,000 vehicles pass through Julianstown every day and argues the congestion is the result of years of inadequate infrastructure planning.We heard more about this on The Agenda this morning.

The State’s legal aid bill for international protection cases has risen sharply over the past four years, with new figures from the Department of Justice showing spending has increased from around €1 million in 2021 to approximately €6.6 million this year.The figures have sparked renewed debate around Government spending, the cost of processing international protection applications, and whether taxpayers are getting value for money from the current system.Aontú has been critical of the increase, arguing that the scale of spending warrants greater scrutiny. A wildfire has caused significant damage to part of Templetown Beach in north Louth, with fire crews at the scene on Sunday morning to bring the blaze under control.Large sections of the shoreline have been burned, and local representatives say the outcome could have been far worse had the wind been blowing in a different direction. The blaze has left visible damage across the popular coastal area and prompted a major emergency response.The fire has sparked renewed warnings about the dangers of lighting fires in coastal areas, with concerns over the impact on wildlife, the environment and public safety. US President Donald Trump is expected to visit Ireland next month, with reports suggesting a major security operation is being planned for his three-day stay. The visit is expected to centre around his golf resort in Doonbeg during the Irish Open, where he is expected to spend much of his time.Reports also suggest Mr Trump could travel to Dublin to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the new US embassy and hold talks with Taoiseach Micheál Martin. Hamas has said it agreed to a deal to end the war with Israel that included provisions addressing its weapons and the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.The group's disarmament has been one of the key sticking points in the advancement of a ceasefire deal that has been in place in Gaza since October.

A local Ashbourne family has been left devastated after a house fire destroyed their home and many of their personal belongings. Thankfully, everyone got out safely, but the family now faces the enormous task of rebuilding their lives after losing so much.Adding to the heartbreak, the family did not have insurance, meaning they are now relying on the support of their community to help them recover. Friends and neighbours have come together to launch a fundraiser, with every cent raised going directly to the family to help replace essential items, carry out urgent works, and provide some stability during what is an incredibly difficult time.
