Meg’s longing to fit in with wealthier circles grows stronger, leading her to accept an invitation to a lavish party. She becomes disillusioned when she realizes that appearances don’t bring true happiness, and the superficiality of the people around her starkly contrasts with the values of her own family. This chapter explores the tension between social ambition and personal fulfillment.
