The 2026 Retail Playbook For Ecommerce Brands - How To Break Into Stores And Scale Profitably (Ranged CEO)
01:12:33|In this episode I sat down with Jessica Gordoun. Sheās the co-founder and Managi ng Director of Ranged, a retail growth agency that helps modern e-commerce brands break into major stores like Coles, Woolworths, Costco, and more. Before starting her own company, Jessica spent years inside the retail system, working as a buyer at Coles and leading FMCG growth at The Reject Shop. She helped scale brands that are now everywhere, including Funday, Muscle Nation, and Pistachio Papi. Sheās seen retail from the inside ā and knows exactly why most brands fail when they try to get on shelves. In this conversation, Jessica pulls back the curtain on what really happens behind the scenes in retail. She explains why getting a product onto shelves is only the beginning, and why most founders underestimate how hard it is to stay there. We break down the full journey from e-commerce to retail, including pitching buyers, understanding margins, handling supply chains, managing cash flow, and competing against massive brands like Coke and NestlĆ©.Jessica shares lessons from her own career jump from corporate to founder, what it was like going from a high salary to zero income, and why being scrappy matters more than being perfect. She explains the biggest mistakes founders make, the red flags retail buyers look for, and what separates brands that explode in retail from those that quietly disappear. In this episode, we talk about:Getting into retail is not the hard part, staying there is. Most brands underestimate how competitive it becomes once you are on the shelf.Retailers do not build your brand for you. You are still responsible for driving demand, awareness, and sell-through.Strong products and marketing are not enough without retail knowledge. Many founders enter with gaps in pricing, margins, and supply chain understanding.Success in retail requires constant tracking and optimization. If you are not measuring performance, you are likely wasting money.Retail is a negotiation game. You rarely get everything you want, so knowing how to meet in the middle matters.Early-stage brands often lack commercial awareness. Simple concepts like margin vs markup can make or break decisions.Transitioning from Ecom to retail introduces a steep learning curve. Logistics, distribution, and operations quickly become just as important as marketing. You either become a strong marketer or a strong operator, but retail forces you to develop both to survive.Big brands dominate through scale and resources. Competing means being sharper, faster, and more intentional at every step.Product quality still wins. Brands that succeed tend to be deeply connected to their customer and obsessed with delivering a better product experience. This episode is packed with practical advice, real talk, and clear lessons for anyone building a brand. If youāre an e-commerce founder thinking about retail, or already in stores and feeling overwhelmed, this conversation will give you clarity, confidence, and a real playbook for success.āGet Shopify for $1 šhttps://www.shopify.com/au/free-trial?irclickid=wgFQcpVhwxyKT6gUgB2moRbFUksUn4yhm2z22g0&irgwc=1&partner=4450628&affpt=excluded&utm_channel=affiliates&utm_source=4450628-impact&utm_medium=cpa&iradid=1061744Follow the channel herešInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/dylanmullanshow/Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3oNnDapuoEEdcLqGsTg30QFollow me herešInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/dylanmullanTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@dylanmullanFollow Jessica Gordoun herešInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/jess_gordoun/

MVMT Watches Founder: I Went From $0 to $100M & Lost Myself In The Process
01:08:34|In this episode, I sat down with Jake Kassan. Jake is the co-founder of MVMT (Movement Watches), one of the brands that helped kick-start modern e-commerce and social media marketing. He grew the business from zero into a global company making over $75 million a year, before selling it for a $100 million exit. On paper, Jake āwon the gameā of business at just 28 years old.But this episode tells the story most people never hear. Jake opens up about what life really looked like after the money hit his bank account. He shares the emotional crash that followed his exit, the loss of identity that came from selling his lifeās work, and why financial freedom didnāt bring the happiness he expected. Instead of feeling fulfilled, Jake found himself chasing dopamine through distractions, losing motivation, and questioning who he was without the business. In this conversation, we unpack the early days of building MVMT, the mindset that helped it scale fast, and why the first years of entrepreneurship are often the most exciting. Jake explains when business stopped being creative and started feeling corporate, why becoming a CEO wasnāt what he thought it would be, and how imposter syndrome showed up as the company grew.If youāve ever dreamed of a big exit, felt burned out chasing goals, or wondered what comes after āmaking it,ā this conversation will give you clarity, perspective, and practical lessons you wonāt hear anywhere else.In this episode:Do work you enjoy, not just work that pays: Long-term fulfillment comes from loving the process, not chasing outcomes like money or status.Money doesnāt replace purpose: A massive financial exit delivers a short dopamine hit, but without a mission, it often leads to emptiness rather than happiness. The mission matters more than the reward: What truly fueled success wasnāt the moneyāit was the challenge, the growth, and the sense of building something meaningful.Selling a company can trigger an identity crisis: When the business is gone, founders often struggle with āWho am I now?ā because their identity was tied to the company.Early-stage entrepreneurship thrives on creative problem-solving: The real advantage early on wasnāt technical expertiseāit was intuition, speed, and the ability to solve problems creatively.Growth changes the founderās roleāand not everyone enjoys that shift: Scaling turns founders into people managers and operators, which can drain passion if thatās not their strength.External validation is a dangerous long-term motivatorProving others wrong can drive early success, but relying on it eventually leads to dissatisfaction and burnout.Too much dopamine kills ambition: Overindulgence in distractions (social media, gaming, substances) dulls motivation and makes commitment harder.Boredom is necessary for clarity and drive: Allowing boredom creates space for focus, discipline, and rediscovering intrinsic motivation.Fulfillment comes from pursuing challenging goalsānot from ādoing nothingā: Financial freedom without meaningful goals often leads to numbness, while striving toward something just out of reach restores purpose.Get Shopify for $1 šhttps://www.shopify.com/au/free-trial?irclickid=wgFQcpVhwxyKT6gUgB2moRbFUksUn4yhm2z22g0&irgwc=1&partner=4450628&affpt=excluded&utm_channel=affiliates&utm_source=4450628-impact&utm_medium=cpa&iradid=1061744Follow the channel herešInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/lifemoneyandlove/?hl=enTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@lifemoneyandloveYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3oNnDapuoEEdcLqGsTg30QFollow me herešInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/dylanmullanTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@dylanmullanFollow Jake Kassan herešInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/jakekassan/
