K-Pop for Old People

Ari and norm celebrate the holidays by talking about some of their favorite K-Pop holiday songs. Plus, reactions to VCHA songs from last time, and digressions in to some old person holiday topics such as the movie Love, Actually and Mariah Carey. Also, how rocking is Jingle Bell Rock, anyway?

Ari teaches norm about a group that is different from the others they've discussed in a couple of ways--it's made up of (North) Americans, and hasn't even officially debuted yet--VCHA. Also reactions to FIFTY FIFTY songs (but mostly just that one), and references to old person things including Alvin and the Chipmunks and the Kingston Trio.

This week our third co-host Gracie returns to talk about FIFTY FIFTY; as always, reactions to songs from last week's group IVE; and some discussion about how K-Pop cultivates an image of success. Tangents include Kidz Bop, the Barbie movie, and R&B/Hip-Hop group TLC.

Ari and norm discuss Kep1er, the girl group formed from a competition TV show. Old person references include Pantera and Jem & the Holograms. And as always, reactions to songs by last week's group, aespa.

This week Ari teaches norm about the girl group aespa and their AI concept. Asides include Tetris, a K-Pop crossover with one of norm's favorite bands, Queen, and Ari's take on how choreography is less learned and more absorbed.

In this episode we talk about punctuation marks, vampires, and children's TV shows, so we must be discussing the boy group (not band) ENHYPEN. Also reactions to (G)I-DLE songs, so more discussion of sexual politics, but also Banksy, and whether or not it would be cool to have a blood room (that is, a room in your house that bleeds).

This week we talk about the girl group (G)I-DLE, however that's pronounced. We get in to their particularly forward style of Girl Crush, and a long discussion grows out of it about the intersection of K-Pop and queer identities. Also, as usual, reactions to songs from last week's subject Red Velvet. Digressions include George Gershwin, Biggie & Tupac, and how pineapple fights back.
