JOURNEY
Rescue on Everest - Interview with World Record holder Mingma Tenzi Sherpa
Mingma Tenzi Sherpa is one of the most accomplished high-altitude mountaineers of his generation. Born in 1984 in the village of Yaphu in the Sankhuwasabha District of eastern Nepal, he grew up in the shadow of some of the world's greatest peaks, with Makalu — the fifth highest mountain on Earth — virtually on his doorstep.
He made his first Himalayan expeditions in 2003 and has since gone on to summit Mount Everest twelve times. In January 2021, he made history as part of the first team ever to summit K2 in winter — widely regarded as the last great problem in Himalayan mountaineering. In October 2025, he completed the ultimate mountaineering milestone: all 14 of the world's 8,000-metre peaks.
Renowned within the climbing community as the go-to expert for high-altitude rope fixing, Mingma Tenzi Sherpa is a living legend of the mountains.
In 2026 Mingma was involved in a dramatic high altitude rescue on Mt Everest and he shares this story.
