#18 - I DID THIS FIRST! 12-2-20 (Audio Version)

This week on the show I have advice on how to use social media that will change your life. Also, THE KIDS IN THE HALL on SQUiRT TV.

Get ready for the upcoming "Xanadu" Audio Commentary by checking out a cool mashup I made.

It's going to be a December to Remember here on the Patreon. Hear a little bit of THE JON SPENCER BLUES EXPLOSION from a LIVE radio performance with me that even I hadn't heard since we recorded it 1997.

Also, for reasons I still don't understand I was asked to write a song and make a music video that explains that Slender Man has NOTHING to do with reggae music. I want to say it will make more sense when you see the video and hear the song, but I'd be lying. The whole thing is very strange.

THIS MONTH IS GONNA BE NUTS ON THIS PATREON!

  • BONUS: Beatle Jim Presents "Get Back" Outtakes

    16:20|
This is really exciting and a total FOGELNEST+ exclusive. My favorite Beatles YouTuber BEATLE JIM shares a bit of audio THE BEATLES didn’t release in their new eight hour documentary, "THE BEATLES - GET BACK."You’ll never guess what they talk about! Unless you’re a real hardcore Beatles collector, you will NOT hear this anywhere else. Especially not on Disney Plus. Special thanks to Beatle Jim!

  • Robert Stigwood - The Uncensored True Story of a Mogul (RARE RSO Records LP Xmas Party Gift 1978)

    41:40|
I'll give a little intro, but basically, this record did NOT exist online ANYWHERE and I figured there had to be someone else besides me who wanted to hear it.As described on discogs.com:“Very weird joke record presumably given out at some sort of RSO Records Christmas Party in 1978. The track listings, titles, and credits are for the most part unreliable in-jokes with numerous RSO associates credited as well as folks like "Rev. Jimmy Jones," "The Gibblet Brothers", and even Mavis Staples. In addition to the long spoken "humorous" part, there are parodies of Bee Gees songs including "I Started A Joke" and "Holiday", with new lyrics telling a preposterous version of the Stigwood story. Presumably this was recorded on August 7, 1978, at Criteria. ⁣ ⁣The label reads "The Stigwood Orchestra Plays 1001 Golden Memories For You" and lists this as "Vol. 15", but these are more jokes and bear no relation to the contents of the record.”⁣ ⁣So basically it’s a Christmas gift for Robert Stigwood featuring his cohorts roasting him. Clearly made by a bunch of (allegedly) coked up record executives. It is filled with company in-jokes, but some of them work today if you know your RSO Records and Robert Stigwood history. I promised on my Instagram I would digitize it and make it available, so here it is!Thanks to http://www.spikesrecordrack.com in the Catskills, NY for getting this record to me and knowing it would be in the right hands! ⁣I'm not really a YouTuber, but this needed to be on YouTube! Oddly, this is actually in YouTube's copyright system! I don't really monetize any of my videos, but the fact that this record that was probably only given out to RSO employees is in the CONTENT ID system?! What the heck?!No problem, like I said, I'm not a professional YouTuber. That's why you're here on the Patreon!Simply enjoy this gift of RSO Records history! It must've been a riot for people to get this in 1978. Does it hold up in 2021? I don't know. I didn't work for The Robert Stigwood Organization in the 70's. I was born in 1979 and I'm just a big fan of what they accomplished... both their successes and their failures. This is also available on YouTube if you want to check out the labels and artwork: https://youtu.be/MUUXCHRzrGQ

    00:00|
Hey!It's going to be a big week on the Patreon! I wanted to give you a little update on what to expect this week. I know there wasn't a Bonus Podcast on Sunday. Sorry about that, it's coming tomorrow! Wednesday, a new episode of I DID THIS FIRST! with Paul Scheer and later this week, the much anticipated Audio Commentary of "Xanadu."That's pretty much what I tell you in this mini update, but you'll want to listen to it because it features an abandoned musical project I started messing around with and then said, "Why am I doing this?" If you think I should continue it, let me know in the comments. Also, if anyone has any questions about accessing Patreon content, getting the show into your podcast feed or just general navigation through all the stuff on this page, let me know and I'll help in the comments section!Thanks,-Jake
  • KFOG - The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion LIVE! (2/19/97)

    00:00|
A VERY SPECIAL BONUS RADIO SHOW THIS WEEK. I am so excited to share with you something I never thought I would hear again in my lifetime. Let me set the scene for you. It's 1997. Alternative rock radio is playing things like Third Eye Blind's, "Semi-Charmed-Life," Sugar Ray's "Fly," and a song I'm sure you've never heard before, "Everlong" by the Foo Fighters. On October 15th, 1996, Matador/Capitol Records released "Now I Got Worry" by The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. It was their follow-up to "Orange"   which contains "Bellbottoms" (which a new generation knows as that awesome song from Edgar Wright's, "Baby Driver.") I was good pals with JSBX drummer Russell Simins back in the 90's. I'll talk about it a bit more on this week's episode of I DID THIS FIRST! Russell was like a cool older brother and for my birthday one year, I believe my 19th, he gave me copies of "Exile on Main St.," "#1 Record" and "Here Come The Warm Jets." To say he helped send me down the right path would be putting it mildly. Were The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion getting a ton of radio airplay in 1997? Were they on MTV beyond 120 Minutes? No. To give you further perspective, "Spiceworld" the second album from The Spice Girls came out a few weeks after "Now I Got Worry." The 90's were a strange time. While I was at opening night of the film "Spice World" with a bunch of friends and even once attended a Spice Girls concert at Madison Square Garden (Ginger had already left), by that time I had also probably seen The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion play I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY TIMES on the East Coast. I'll let myself do the talking here, but you're about to push play on a very RARE live radio performance by The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion that hasn't been heard since 1997. I only got a copy of it myself over the weekend. Radio is a very disposable medium. This is something I thought was lost FOREVER. I'm not sure he wants to be identified, but thanks to the man who was smart enough to run a DAT player in 1997 and nice enough to get it working again in 2020. Enjoy this piece of my 90s archive. I've got a few more things to share from my time in radio. In the meantime I think it goes without saying this is TO BE PLAYED AT MAXIMUM VOLUME.THE BLUES IS STILL #1!  For all things JSBX, Pussy Galore, Boss Hog and more visit: shoverecords.bandcamp.com
