Christian Allies | Truth Matters

Ep. 143

In this episode we are discussing the importance of aligning ourselves with those who practice and teach what the Scriptures say. Sometimes we make friendships with other God-fearing people and even consider them to be allies in the faith. However, we need to be careful that whoever we consider a brother or sister, is actually following what Jesus said. Especially in regard to salvation and how we obtain it. What does the Bible say about those who are God-fearing, but have not chosen to follow Christ fully yet?

  • 151. Treasuring the Word | How to Appreciate the Bible

    09:24||Ep. 151
    In this episode we are talking about how to appreciate the Bible. God gave it to us as a blessing, but we often do not treat it like the gift that God intended it to be. How can I show my deep gratitude for the Word of God? And how do I share this admiration with my children, grandchildren, or anyone I am close to? In addition to this, we discuss what the word is capable of and what many will do to it in their attempts to silence the potential impact the Bible can have on our lives.
  • 150. Hearing Both Sides | Being Slow to Speak

    11:21||Ep. 150
    In this episode we are in 2 Samuel 16. At this point in David’s life he is on the run from his son Absalom, who is in the middle of overthrowing him as king. As David flees, he encounters different people from his past. In the middle of these stories, David is confronted with one side of a story and makes a decision before he hears the other side. Have we ever done that? What can I do to better about listening to all sides of a story before I make a judgment on a matter?
  • 149. What is Our Authority? | Where Truth Comes From

    09:14||Ep. 149
    In this episode we are talking about authority. Many people have different ideas when it comes to finding truth and what makes it authoritative. But when we look in the Scriptures, we find Jesus commanding His people to always rely on what God has said, not what others have told them. Is this as much of a problem today as it was when Jesus interacted with the Pharisees? And if it is, how can a group of God’s people ensure that what they are practicing and following is actually God’s will?
  • 148. Driving Out Canaan | When Sin is Persistent

    10:45||Ep. 148
    In this episode we are taking an important lesson from the book of Judges. Several times in the early part of Judges we are told about many of the tribes inability to drive out the people of Canaan the way God told them to. What we learn is that sin is a lot like the Canaanites we read about in Judges. Sin is persistent and often refuses to leave. What can I do to keep myself from repeating the mistakes of the Israelites and drive sin out of my life once and for all?
  • 147. Lessons from Jerusalem’s Destruction | Luke 21

    08:23||Ep. 147
    In this episode we are in Luke 21. In this section Jesus predicts the destruction of Jerusalem that took place in 70 AD. But within this prophecy Jesus gives many warnings that hold good lessons for us today. How do I typically look at this section of Scripture? Is it only to be seen and used to talk about Jerusalem’s downfall? Or are there applications that help us today?
  • 146. The Cross of Christ | Profound Truths

    08:34||Ep. 146
    In this episode we discuss the importance of seeing the depth of the cross of Christ. Many people think to take the Lord’s Supper each first day of the week would cause someone to see the crucifixion of Jesus as just another part of our life. However, the consistent reflecting and dwelling on the cross causes a person to gain a deeper appreciation for Jesus and his sacrifice. In John’s writings there are several sections that give us the ability to gain better insight to the purpose of the cross.
  • 145. Early Christian Writers | Should I Listen to Them?

    10:17||Ep. 145
    In this episode we are talking about some of the writings that took place in the 1st and 2nd centuries. More specifically, Christian writers who talked about Scripture and the church in that day. Many assume that because those writers existed so closely to the days of the apostles and the first Christians, that their writings carry some kind of authority or weight. Is this the case? Or is there another way to view these writings from early Christians?
  • 144. The Proclamation of Christ | Unashamed Preaching

    10:07||Ep. 144
    In this episode we are in the book of 1 John. In this unique letter we learn how John reflects on his experience with Jesus. What John saw and experienced changed him in an irreversible way. When we consider the fact that Jesus reveals to us who God is and what his word is, it should change us too. Additionally, we will discuss why John starts this epistle off in a way that is so different than the other letters we find in the New Testament.
