In this episode, David Arditi, Associate Professor of Sociology and Director of the Center for Theory at the University of Texas at Arlington, discusses his new book, "Getting Signed: Record Contracts, Musicians, and Power in Society," which will be published by Palgrave Macmillan. Arditi begins by describing the experience of the music business from the perspective of a musician. How explains how the idea of "getting signed" functions ideologically to compel musicians to pursue record contracts, even when they are not in the best interests of the musician.
