IHTSB September 4, 2022Today we'll be listening to recordings by one of the finest vocalists from our time period, Helen Forrest. She is remembered particularly for the warmth of her voice, for her interpretative skills and for her talent in matching lyrics to the music of the big bands during the Swing Era and beyond. She started out her career during the swing era, and sang with several of the finest big bands that flourished then, and went on to have a very successful solo career. IHTSB Aug 28, 2022The 1930s to the 1950s saw the creation and flourishing of several independent record labels that were dedicated to the developing trends in jazz. These labels produced a wealth of recordings featuring new as well as standard jazz compositions, played by smaller groups of musicians and singers whose talents and styles were as delightful as they were extraordinary. We'll listen today to a selection of recordings made for labels like Commodore, Keynote and Verve, part of a treasury that marked this period as one of the golden ages of the genre.
