Ian Collins unpacks the latest as hundreds of police officers from across Britain have been sent to Middlesbrough amid fears of escalating gang violence. A series of suspected gang-related incidents has taken place since Saturday, when a wrong-way crash on the A66 killed two police officers and five young men. Meanwhile  Reform UK has pledged to prevent people from voting if their English is not good enough to understand the electoral rules. Officials in polling stations would be told to deny someone a ballot paper if they were concerned about “their ability to understand the voting process or language”.
