UKCHH PODCAST – EP 34 – WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF RAP MUSIC TO BLACK CULTURE?
WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF RAP MUSIC TO BLACK CULTURE?
We explore the inception and meaning of rap music to black culture.
A genre that has gone far beyond what any of the founders had ever anticipated. From the block parties in the Bronx, and the toasting and hosting in the UK, rap music has grown exponentially across the world and has formed many sub-genres from the craft.
These represent the different areas of black culture, whether struggle, success, consciousness, or Christianity.
We delve into the minds of our hosts to see the importance Rap music holds to the black culture around the world.

UKCHH PODCAST – EP32 – A STAR TALKS NEW ALBUM, FAITH, SICKLE CELL, MARRIAGE, ADDICTION + ALBUM REVIEW
01:34:09|UKCHH PODCAST – EP32 – A STAR TALKS NEW ALBUM, FAITH, SICKLE CELL, MARRIAGE, ADDICTION + ALBUM REVIEW This quarantine has taught us much, I am very grateful to spending time with family. We are all in this together. A Star's Born & Raised album dropped at a very unique time, just before the quarantine. He believes that God has done it for a reason, seeing great testimonies come from it. A Star is someone who is open and transparent in his music, something that is very important to him as an artist. I am comforted by hearing others go through the challenges together, I am comforted. He wanted to put an arm around the shoulders of his listeners and connect with the challenges. After Hidden Pain, the London MC saw the direction of the album. The album is a walk with God in his grace. Yes pornography battles, sickle cell, difficulties in marriage, but it's like God saying it is well. Born in Leytonstone he talks of how the area deposited many things in him. Gang culture, death, violence, mannerisms and so much more. He seems to forever be grateful for friends, family and the area. Embracing his origins was important you can hear in the core of his album. In his time growing up, A Star would shy away from stating he was Congolese, due to those times; being African was not celebrated. I now understand; much more my culture as my parents still speak the native language. If we are in touch with our culture, it will pour out in our life to others. From 5 years old A Star has been around Hip Hop, R&B. The grime culture came around and he thought “this is me”. It instantly clicked with what he knew from local shop products to areas and slang. I think born and raised is some of my best work, I believe I can make better, but for now it's my best work.
