Julie Mc Loughlin on how to be sound

Season 3, Ep. 6

Julie Mc Loughlin and her husband Owen left steady, full-time jobs to set up their own business after a spot of creative DIY piqued the interest of friends, family and, well, everyone who heard about their off-kilter wedding invitations. I sat down with Julie to talk about the business of business, creativity and conceptualisation, working from home and how Jando got off the ground.

This episode was, crucially, recorded before the current pandemic – and it's more important than ever to support Irish art so, if you're in the market for some new prints, check out Jando's offering.

  • Sophie White missed out

    48:52
Sophie White met her husband way too young – or so she says, meaning she missed out on the "fun" (? questionable) of Tinder, Bumble and Hinge. But she likes him a lot, so it's probably okay. (But she'd still like a little hall pass and thinks all bisexuals should get one.)Follow Sophie on Instagram @sophwhitewhoop or check out her full bibliography on her website, here. • Ashley C. Ford on learning to be loved

    46:03
New York Times bestselling author Ashley C. Ford knows a lot about love, thanks to her husband, who taught her that love isn't a competition; her upbringing, which showed her the ways she didn't want to be loved; and the work she's been able to do on herself, which allowed her to believe she's worthy of that love to begin with. Somebody's Daughter, Ashley's memoir, is available now wherever books are sold. From indie booksellers, Split Rock Books in the US has it; as does Gutter Bookshop in Ireland. You can check out Ashley's website here, and follow her on Instagram and Twitter, too. My book, This is Not About You, is out now! Get it in ebook format in the US, or in hard copy in Ireland.
