  • 41. Horror Hyperfixations - Captured Souls with Chris Collier

    01:30:56||Season 1, Ep. 41
    Captured Souls is an incredible documentary, that I fell in love with at FrightFest last year. I had the pleasure of chatting to the film's director, Chris Collier, about his documentary films, my love of split diopter shots (I forgot to mention in the intro how fucking STOKED I was at how many split diopter shots there were in Lee Cronin's The Mummy!) and Graham Humphreys' incredible career.Pre-order Captured Souls and FrightFest: Beneath the Dark Heart of Cinema at https://24footsquare.com/Captured Souls screening and Q&A, Tyneside Cinema, Friday 8th May: https://tynesidecinema.co.uk/event/captured-souls-in-conversation-with-graham-humphreys/SocialsChris Collier on IGInstagram: @horrorhyperfixations / @sam.munsterTiktok: @horrorhalloweenandhomeLetterboxd: @sammunsterPatreon: Sam MunsterBlog: Sam MunsterHell on Shirts discount code: Munster10Logo design: Gibson Graphix

    01:45:04||Ep. 40
    The brilliant Olivia and Lucy from Sick Girl Films joined me to talk about their upcoming fundraising event, the Sick Girl Party, in London on Saturday 9th May. We also talked about making film events more accessible, how we (sadly!) relate to body horror and share our own experiences of being chronically ill. I'm super grateful to Liv and Lucy for being vulnerable, helping raise awareness and providing a community for fellow sick girls.Tickets for the Sick Girl Party: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/sickgirlfilms/2140765Ā Donate to Sick Girl Films - https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/help-sick-girl-films-continueĀ Sick Girl Films on Ko-fi - https://ko-fi.com/sickgirlfilmsCW: discussion around mental and physical health, struggles with doctors and getting a diagnosis and suicide.SocialsSick Girl Films on IG / Sick Girl Films on TikTokInstagram: @horrorhyperfixations / @sam.munsterTiktok: @horrorhalloweenandhomeLetterboxd: @sammunsterPatreon: Sam MunsterBlog: Sam MunsterHell on Shirts discount code: Munster10

  • 38. Horror Hyperfixations - A Hand to Hold with Philip Clyde-Smith and Eliza Power

    37:48||Ep. 38
    I chatted to Eliza Power and Philip Clyde-Smith, the writer and director of new comedy horror short A Hand to Hold. We talked about "grief porn", working with Frances Barber and favourite 80s horror movies.Moira, an elderly Irish woman, finds herself literally attached to her deceased husband Patrick. When his hand refuses to let go after death, it leads to increasingly grotesque events. Everyone in the couple’s orbit, from their daughter to the local doctor, a farmer, a priest, and a Satanist, all try to intervene with horrific consequences. 'A Hand to Hold' blends horror with pitch-black Irish comedy, exploring themes of grief and toxic relationships. The film features an original score by Golden Globe nominated composer Brian Byrne. A Hand to Hold will be showing at the following film festivals. Keep an eye out, it's a wonderfully brilliant film!Cleveland International Film Festival - 10th + 11th AprilMiami Film Festival - 14th AprilShorts in Paradise, Gold Coast Film Festival - 2nd MaySouthside Film Festival - 10-13th JuneSocialsA Hand to Hold / Eliza Power / Philip Clyde-SmithInstagram: @horrorhyperfixations / @sam.munsterTiktok: @horrorhalloweenandhomeLetterboxd: @sammunsterPatreon: Sam MunsterBlog: Sam MunsterHell on Shirts discount code: Munster10

    Who better to talk to about a fucked up movie than queen of the extreme, Zoe Rose Smith? Zobo joins me to talk about Caye Casas’ The Coffee Table (and Can Evrenol’s The Turkish Coffee Table), one of my favourite movies from the last few years.
