EP 293: The return of Terrestrials Adrian Duke and Ben Benton talking new music and much more
This week on Heavy Metal Tones, I’m back with Terrestrials — and this time I’m joined by guitarist Adrian Dukeand drummer Ben Benton for a deep dive into the band’s latest chapter.
We talk about their brand-new singles “Many Moons” and “Endure”, the stories behind the songs, the evolution of the band and what’s happening behind the scenes as Terrestrials continue to push their sound forward.
You might remember my earlier conversation with Scott Alexander, where we talked about the band, their musical journey and their album Iridescent. Well, now we pick up that story and see where Terrestrials are heading next.
“Many Moons” looks at fear, failure and stepping outside those comfortable places we sometimes get stuck in, while “Endure” takes things somewhere deeper and more reflective.
Two new songs, two great musicians and plenty of conversation about where Terrestrials are heading next.
So turn it up and join me for Heavy Metal Tones Episode 293. 🤘🔥

EP 297 Venom's Black Metal
01:20:10|Heavy Metal Tones – Episode 297Cronos, Venom’s Black Metal & AntagonizörThe tribute to Cronos continues on Heavy Metal Tones, and this week we turn our attention to what many consider his pinnacle with Venom: the legendary Black Metal.Following last episode’s homage to the man behind the voice, bass and attitude that helped change the face of heavy music, it’s time to revisit the record that gave an entire genre its name. Raw, aggressive and unapologetic, Black Metalremains a landmark in extreme music, and Cronos’ legacy is written all over it.But we’re not stopping there. As a special halftime music break, we crank up Antagonizör and their brilliant track Obsessed By Evil — a filthy, old-school, Venom-inspired blast of metalpunk that carries that same rebellious spirit into the underground today. Two generations of evil, one unmistakable influence.Crank it up, raise a glass to Cronos, and join me for Episode 297 of Heavy Metal Tones.Stay loud. Stay metal.AntagonizörFacebookBandcamp – Edgelords From HellYouTube – official “Obsessed by Evil” video
EP 296: As the flaming fires of Hades recalls its master Cronos its time to bring back Ep 133 and say goodbye to a LEGEND
01:30:49|Heavy Metal Tones – Episode 296: A Farewell to CronosThis is a sad one. Before we revisit the past, I pay tribute to Cronos — Conrad Lant, the voice, force and driving spirit behind Venom, and one of the figures who helped shape the sound and attitude of extreme metal.I take a moment to remember Cronos and reflect on his enormous impact before revisiting Episode 133 from November 2023, where I took a deep dive into Welcome to Hell.An album that changed the rules, challenged everything that came before it, and helped lay the foundations for black metal, death metal and the extreme metal world that followed. This isn’t just a revisit of an old episode. It’s a look back at a record that still sounds dangerous, raw and utterly uncompromising — and a chance to remember the man behind it.Raise the volume. Remember Cronos. Remember Venom.Rest in power, Cronos. 🤘
EP 295: From esoteric to introspective two different Black Metal bands two amazing sounds Trivan and HKSPK
56:02|TRIVAN & HKSPK — TWO FACES OF THE EUROPEAN UNDERGROUNDEpisode 295 is a double header that takes Heavy Metal Tones deep into two very different corners of the European black metal underground.First up, TRIVAN from Croatia — esoteric, philosophical and steeped in an atmosphere that feels almost ancient. Their music is built around darkness, introspection, spiritual resistance and the search for something deeper beneath the surface. Then we head to Germany for HKSPK, whose black/death metal takes a much more introspective and contemporary path. Their music feels rooted in lived experience, loss, conflict and the world around them — raw, direct and very much of the present. Two bands. Two countries. Two very different approaches to extreme metal. One feels ancient. The other feels new.One looks beyond the world. The other looks directly into it.And to make this episode even more special, I've got TWO EXCLUSIVE TRACKS — one from each of these European underground bands. This is Heavy Metal Tones at its best: digging beneath the surface, finding music that deserves to be heard, and bringing it directly to you.TRIVAN 🇭🇷 Croatia🌐 Official Website🎵 Bandcamp📘 Facebook📸 InstagramHKSPK 🇩🇪 Germany🌐 Official Website🎵 Bandcamp📸 Instagram📘 Facebook▶️ YouTube
EP 294 : 50 years of Punk 1976 to 2026 Ep 7- The Northern sound and Gang of Four's masterpiece Entertainment !
01:17:58|Heavy Metal Tones – Episode 29450 Years of Punk 1976–2026 – Part 7: The Northern SoundThe punk story heads north for Episode 294 as we continue the journey through 50 Years of Punk 1976–2026.This time, we’re looking at the sound coming out of the North of England and diving deep into one of the most important and influential records of the era — Gang Of Four’s Entertainment!.Sharp, angular, political and completely unlike anything that came before it, Entertainment! took the raw energy of punk and twisted it into something more challenging — mixing funk, dub, art-rock and post-punk into a record that still sounds incredibly relevant decades later. But this isn’t just about one album. It’s about the Northern Sound, the bands, the attitude and the cultural landscape that helped push punk into new territory.Turn it up, strap in and join me as the 50-year journey continues.Heavy Metal Tones – Episode 294.
EP 292 : When Low-Fi Becomes Audiophile — Are We Improving the Classics?
01:00:10|When Low-Fi Becomes Audiophile — Are We Improving the Classics? This week on Heavy Metal Tones, I’m getting into a subject that can divide music fans faster than a dodgy guitar solo — re-recording, remixing and remastering classic albums and tracks in the pursuit of better sound. Can you really take a raw, dirty, low-fi classic and make it better without taking away what made it special in the first place?I take a deep dive into Cronos’ re-recordings of classic Venom tracks, looking at what happens when one of the architects of extreme metal goes back and revisits the music that helped define the genre. Then I turn the spotlight onto the audiophile pressing of the Sex Pistols’ Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols. Does improving the sound reveal more detail and power — or does some of the glorious roughness and attitude get lost along the way? This is a very personal look at original recordings versus reworked versions, the audiophile obsession, nostalgia, production choices and that eternal question:Should we really be fixing something that wasn’t broken?Turn it up, trust your ears, and join me for Episode 292 of Heavy Metal Tones.Patreon.com/heavymetaltones zVLL3D7STt5lZe4UK2TQ
