Episode 10 Garry & June Carter - Bookkeeping in the UK

Season 1, Ep. 10

November 2021 will see the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers, globally, celebrate 25 years of existence. In that time, ICB has changed the face of how Bookkeepers see themselves and how the business world views Bookkeepers and Bookkeeping. In this episode of Heart of the Bookkeeper, we meet the couple who started it all, way back in 1996. Business people themselves at that time, Garry & June Carter recognised that a gap existed in most enterprises in the United Kingdom and a conversation with a Prince and others associated with Financial services, convinced them that Bookkeepers could fill that void. And the rest, as they say, is history. This episode delves into how it all began, what shaped Bookkeeping in the UK and further a field in the past 25 years and what the Carters believe Bookkeeping will look like in the years ahead. This is a fascinating insight into many aspects of the world of Bookkeeping, including what it is like to be a Bookkeeper in modern day UK and what are the differences between our compatriots overseas and the Bookkeeping landscape here in Australia. If you are a Bookkeeper of any description, student, employed or in practice, or simply have a genuine interest in the question of "why Bookkeeping", you absolutely do not want to miss this episode. This is an episode to "raise a cup" to Bookkeepers everywhere. Sit back and enjoy.

The inspiration of Debbies Mum shines through, who almost single handedly brought her up and 5 other siblings of Debbies, after the sad and very early loss of her Dad.
