Dementia Cases to Triple by 2050, Warn Researchers

A new study warns of a nearly tripling of global dementia cases by 2050, largely due to population growth and aging, particularly in lower and middle-income countries. While better education and healthier lifestyles could reduce cases by six million, rising rates of obesity, high blood sugar, and smoking could add almost seven million more. The impact will be felt globally, with the biggest increases expected in North Africa, the Middle East, and sub-Saharan Africa. This data underscores the urgent need for public health initiatives focusing on modifiable risk factors to slow this trend.
