Talk by Jill Liddington 

Dr Jill Liddington&nbsp;is an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Leeds. Her expertise lies with women's history, especially gender and class in nineteenth and twentieth century Britain.&nbsp; Jill is the celebrated author of&nbsp;Female Fortune: the Anne Lister diaries 1833-36.&nbsp;This&nbsp;was the book that inspired TV scriptwriter&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sally_Wainwright" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Sally Wainwright</a>&nbsp;to write&nbsp;Gentleman Jack&nbsp;(BBC1/HBO). It was also&nbsp;the book Sally chose to take with her if she was ever trapped on a desert island (BBC R4). This was a fund-raising talk in conjunction with Jill, a member of Halifax Civic Trust, and afterwards there was a book signing of&nbsp;Female Fortune. The event was held at The Albany Club at Hope Hall Halifax which has connections to Anne Lister by being home to Christopher Rawson her coal rival.
