As we head into fall, we're cooling things down and returning back to our usual format to examine the 2000 unintentional miniseries Fish, starring Paul as an employment lawyer who's wife has left him with his eight-year-old son and a life he can't quite seem to control. Howdy! After taking some much-needed time off while Maggie was visiting the UK, the Girlies are back with a slight change in format. This episode, we're covering four of Paul's many short films: The Dance of Shiva (1998), Perplexed Music (2017), Swallow Your Dreams (2021), and The Day of the Sun Dig (2023). Listen on for talk about the advantages and pitfalls and short filmmaking, Paul's freedom as an actor in this unique medium, and exactly how Maggie's trip to the Edinburgh Fringe fits into the Girlies' game of Six Degrees of Paul McGann. We're going to hell for this one — literally. This week, we're covering 1990's The Monk, an adaptation of the Gothic novel starring Paul in the title role. And while it continues our trend of Paul as religious figure, we...did not love this one. • 33. The Hanging Gale (1995)

    01:08:02|
After much clamoring and requesting of this title, the Girlies are finally tackling The Hanging Gale, the miniseries which not only features Paul, but also all three of his brothers! The four brothers star as a family of Irish farmers during the Great Famine, based on the McGanns' real family ancestry and developed by Stephen and Joe. Listen on for an in-depth discussion of the real history behind the series, a firm judgement on the boys' Irish accents, and which McGann the girls ended up with a crush on at the end.
