7: An unorthodox solution to America’s immigration problem.

America’s immigration system is broken. Lawmakers across the political spectrum agree that the current situation is unsustainable, and there has been much debate about how to reform our immigration system. Most of the dialogue centers around restrictive policy, but “closing the border” or building a wall won’t prove effective long-term. In order to successfully reform our immigration system, policy needs to address the reasons why immigrants are coming to America in such large numbers, and plan for the reality that immigrants will find their way here even if towering walls are built and more border patrol officers are hired. An immigration system that embraces the economic necessity of foreign labor is the most effective, humane, and logical way to lower the number of migrants requiring support from the American public and solve the inconsistent, messy process of asylum and residency that we currently employ.

6: Overstimulation.

Episode 6 is about overstimulation. I think it’s a common experience among young people today, and it continues to affect me despite my trying over and over again to limit distractions. I’m using my experience as a starting point to explore how digital devices affect our attention spans and whether the problem of overstimulation can be solved.

5: The overlooked driver behind student protests.

I’ve been closely following on-campus demonstrations related to the conflict taking place in Gaza, especially at my alma mater UCLA. I was a graduating senior the last time dissent rocked campus — in 2020 with Black Lives Matter — and the similarities between the two protests have me thinking more broadly about why each of the movements caught on like wildfire among students, and more generally with Generation Z.

4: Should we stop trying to disprove religion?

Episode 4 is about how to discuss the existential concepts we've been arguing over for millenia, such as god, religion, consciousness, and souls. Many modern academics argue that these concepts are simply human inventions - but can we ever truly let go of our belief in them? And if we can't, why would we try to get other people to let go of their beliefs?

3: The case for a 100% tax rate.

Episode 3 is all about taxation. We discuss the functionality and reasoning behind America's system of progressive taxation, and explore the argument for increasing the top federal tax rate from its current level of 37% all the way to 100% - which would essentially put a cap on individual income.

2: A generation with no purpose.

Episode 2 is about the crisis of purpose facing Gen Z. We discuss humanity's innate purpose to survive and reproduce, as well as man's invention of organized religion, humanism, and spirituality. We conclude with a discussion of the unique challenges young people today experience when trying to find meaning and purpose in their lives.
