Little House on the Prairie S9 EP16: Home Again Part 1
Join Jennie and Amye, sisters and sometimes mortal foes, as they dissect one of the most impactful shows from our shared, Gen X childhood: Little House on the Prairie.
In season 9, episode 16: Home Again Part 1, We get a glimpse of Charles working his retail job. Nothing seems to be going well for them in the city, as Albert is thieving and getting arrested and Caroline is nowhere to be found. After Albert is caught stealing again, he and Charles head back to Walnut Grove where Charles’ plan to ditch Albert off on Manly and Laura is thwarted by a morphine addiction. Amye is sick, so please don’t mind her scratchy voice!

Patreon Release: After-School Special: What Are Friends For? (1980)
51:04||Season 2, Ep. 2After-School Special: What Are Friends For? (1980)This episode is from our Patreon archives and originally aired in February of 2021 and remains one of our favorites of all time!Twelve-year-old Amy Warner is the new kid on the block after she and her freshly-divorced mother move to California. All is fine until Amy meets Michelle Mudd, a tween who loves dogs, rainbows, shoplifting, and blood sacrifices. Amy grows concerned when Michelle attempts to cast a spell on her father’s new girlfriend and frames Amy for shoplifting at the local store. This is bonkers. We get an inside look at Jennie’s teenage bedroom, Amye revisits her brief life of crime, and we both agree that Charlie Chaplin posters have no place in a teenager’s bedroom. Oh, and there are a ton of creepy dolls. 01:11:30||Season 2, Ep. 1Trigger warnings for this episode include: child pornography, rape, sexual assault We are joined by Tess and Brooke from Psych Legal Pop Podcast to discuss Hulu’s Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields. If you’re a Gen Xer, you might feel like you grew up with Brooke Shields, and in many ways you did. She was the quintessential 80’s icon complete with her bushy eyebrows and tight-fitted Calvin Kleins. But few knew what was happening behind the scenes as her mother’s drinking became out of control and a group of sleazy directors couldn’t respect the fact that she was a child. Don’t worry, Amye kept a “scumbag list” so we know who to avoid.Follow us on IG at: genxthisiswhyFollow Amye on IG at: amyearcherwriterFollow Brooke and Tess on IG at: psychlegalpop177. Gen X, That Was a Thing: The Abduction of Steven Stayner
55:06||Season 1, Ep. 177Trigger warnings for this episode include: suicide ideation, murder, kidnapping, sexual assault, and rape. It’s every parent’s worst nightmare, the image of your child’s face helplessly peering out the rear window of a stranger's car as it drives away from you and slips into the unknown. For Kay and Dilbert Stayner, this nightmare became a reality when their seven-year-old son, Steven, was kidnapped on his way home from school in Merced, CA, in 1972. For seven long years, Steven’s family searched for him while he was living in northern California with his abductor, Kenneth Parnell. Steven’s story is one of tragedy, sorrow, and unexpected heroism as he plotted his escape and saved the life of Parnell’s newest victim, five-year-old Timmy White. Steven’s story was captured in the very popular 1989 mini-series, I Know My First Name is Steven. But the Stayner family’s story doesn’t end with them reuniting with their son after seven long years. In a bizarre twist, more tragedy befalls this family as Steven’s older brother sets out to make a name for himself in the most horrific way. Corrections:In the episode, we failed to mention the mini-series was written by Mike Echols who later turned the manuscript into a book. Movie first, book second. The mini-series first aired in November, 1989, not 1983.Sources for this episode include but are not limited to:https://www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/a-child-abductees-journey-back/https://abcnews.go.com/US/video/march-14-1980-interview-steven-stayner-60269400https://www.cnn.com/2003/LAW/01/04/molester.arrest/https://abcnews.go.com/US/steven-cary-stayner-tale-brothers-horror-heroism/story?id=60529944https://www.eastbayexpress.com/oakland/inside-the-monster/Content?oid=1069138For 12+ hours on this case: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SEpITqnESI&list=PL6hM2D6rSybBXr597MN3H_lEkOaeDwgBL&index=15&t=0sWant ad-free episodes PLUS 2 bonus episodes a month? Little House on the Prairie S1:EP8 Ma's Holiday featuring Pamela Bob
01:07:11||Season 1, Ep. 176Ma and Pa leave town for a bang trip and leave the children in Edward’s care. What could go wrong? Edwards almost shoots the girls, never changes his clothes, shoots a snake and makes the girls eat it, and nails Carrie to the roof. Meanwhile on the bang trip, Pa is really frustrated as Caroline’s mind is on Walnut Grove and not much else. Bottom line: this is a wasted chance for hotel sex.Thank you to Pamela Bob, writer, creator, and star of Livin’ on a Prairie, a brilliant series of shorts about a woman whose life is affected by her love of LHOTP.
