Deep Dives: Doomed versus Scalable Ideas
Beyond Low Consumption to Systemic Sustainability
Season 1, Ep. 14
•
Kalle reflects on the relevance of the Low Consumption Society as opposed to large systemic changes. Since the dawn of the sustainability movement in the late 60s, activists and others have repeatedly called for people in the wealthy countries of the west to adopt more modest, low-consumption lifestyles and cultures. Modesty is good. However, appeals to reducing consumption at the individual level, per se, has relatively little promise as regards transitioning towards a sustainable future.
