Today we have Candyce Paul, an Emergency Management Coordinator with English River First Nation, tell us about the serious issues the north has faced due to Covid 19 and is still facing with wildfires.

Palash Sanyal is originally from Bangladesh and understands the importance and impact of water and water security. Now, as a Canadian educator and advocate of open government, he challenges people to think at systems levels.

Erin Greer is a community member dedicated to supporting initiatives that involve philosophy outreach and promote mental health. One of the ways her passion for philosophy outreach overlaps with her interest in promoting mental health is through Existential Psychotherapy - a counselling modality that, she argues, is particularly well-suited to addressing the impact of existential threats, like climate change, on mental health. 

Broadcast on the evening of the 2024 Saskatoon council elections, Jory and Mark talk about the action we need the new city councillors to take to reduce and ultimately eliminate Saskatoon's greenhouse gas emissions. They talk about priorities, about the dangers of delaying and watering down already-agreed policy, about the multiple benefits that climate-aware policies can achieve, about the need for continued citizen-based campaigns, and about the sense of empowerment that can come from being part of one of those campaigns.

Adam Sarauer gives us some facts on Veganism and explains how it is a substantial way to help prevent climate change.

Sherry and Mark discuss the recent United Nations Environment Program report on the emissions gap, and the 2024 State of the Climate report, authored by 14 leading climate scientists. The message from both is clear: current policies place us nowhere near being able to limit global heating within manageable limits. But the solutions are technically and economically possible: what we lack in the political will and the general understanding of just how urgent this crisis has become.

Idealism is this week's topic, as Sherry interviews Julia Boughner, a local Environment Canada scientist.
