The Bridge Brothers Presents...

What is the best football song?

Season 1, Ep. 4

On the back of our Seasons Change episode, Matt and Nick talk footie and music. In particular, the lads talk about their favourite football songs and why these are vastly superior to the likes of Sweet Caroline which often accompanies England FC games these days.

Speaking of England, Nick's choice for the national team is Vindaloo with his Chelsea selection being Sugg's Blue Day. This prompts Nick to talk about how modern day football songs are missing a distinct "geezery" quality to them these days.

Matt sings the praises of Three Lions and reminds listeners, that far from being an arrogant song from the England fans, it is actually a tune which laments historic failures from the national team and yearns for the summer of 1966 when the Men's Team last won the World Cup. Thankfully the Lionesses brought major silverware home in 2023 when they won the European Cup.

There are some off-beat mentions for World in Motion, Fool's Gold by the Stone Roses, Absurd by Fluke, Meat Pie Sausage Roll by Grandad Roberts and his Song Elvis and the Footie Song by Adam Buxton and Joe Cornish.

Of course listeners, you can tell us your favourites by contacting us via the following...

You can also tell us what you think makes a good football song. We're even tempted to put a playlist together as well!

As always, thanks again to Sea of Days for the brilliant music which was the inspiration for this episode. This edition of the pod features his awesome track Duality. Please also checkout Sea of Days, aka Shane Speed's, monthly radio show Seasons Change.

Going back to FPL, the transfer for deadlines, tactics and captaincy decisions is Saturday the 19th of April at 13:30!

Remember, keep it fun and keep it F.P.L!

Nick on the other hand is riding the crest of a wave and benefited from his accidental wildcard.Looking forward, it's now or never for Matt's bench boost as the brothers talk about their plans for game weeks 18 and 19. Nick, conversely, is looking to remove Brentford's Igor Thiago whose form has been very disappointing of late.Matt and Nick finish the show with by reviewing their Fantasy WSL season so far. We start this episode by taking about AFC Croydon's 5-1 emphatic victory over VCD Athletic as well as the Chelsea Women's even more emphatic win away against Liverpool!With the lads in good spirits over these results, they then turn to this week's question which is: "Who Deserves a Place on the Chelsea Managerial Mount Rushmore?"Matt thought that this one may be a bit more fun than last week's FIFA themed episode which turned a bit lively.Out of 22 managers in the Premier League era, who will make the top 4 as far as Nick is concerned? Have a listen and find out.Of course, if you have any thoughts on our choices for the Chelsea Managerial Mount Rushmore, you can contact us via the details below...InstagramYouTubeTik-TokBlue Sky X (mainly known as Twitter)The songs used in this podcast are Duality and Where Do I Begin by the always amazing Sea of Days. • 17. Rich Owner Chips and Accidental Free Hits

    36:18||Season 1, Ep. 17
    Following on from our Bridge Brothers World Cup episode, (a performance piece rather than a podcast), the brothers are back to talk all things FPL.There's game week 16 analysis as well as transfer chat, accidental free hits and Matt's long awaited bench boost plan!The lads also float the idea of a "Investor Chip" where you only know which potential owner you have been allocated once you play it. Will you get a billionaire Dubai based group, or Mike Ashley?But the FPL battle between the Bridge Brothers continues, will Matt end his slump or will Nick be hoisted "on a Scouse petard"? • 16. Are FIFA On Another Planet?

    36:35||Season 1, Ep. 16
    After discussing good results for the AFC Croydon, the Chelsea men and women's sides and AFC Wimbledon who drew with Shane's (aka Sea of Days) very own Mansfield Team; the lads get stuck into the FIFA World Cup, particularly the obscene ticket prices.As ever in these chats, we cover a lot of ground with Nick lamenting how the game has been lost to big money and that he will quite happily sleep through FIFA's flagship tournament which is hosted in the US, Canada and Mexico. Arguably, Matt should have picked a gentler subject given his brother's personal frustrations about his washing machine breaking down just before we started recording.American listeners may, especially, want to join in the discussion with this edition's show questioning if the World Cup should have returned stateside after 32 years.InstagramYouTubeTik-TokBlue Sky X (mainly known as Twitter)The song used in this podcast is Duality by the always amazing Sea of Days. It's episode 16 and Matt and Nick begin by sharing their war stories of FPL game weeks 14 and 15.With Nick absolutely smashing it once again, Matt is left to wonder what could have been as his triple captain chip came to nothing.There's transfer chat as the lads talk about how to use their 5 new transfers courtesy of the African Cup of Nations, (spoiler: Nick has already used most of his), and Matt emphasises why he will never make any more transfers on Boxing Day.With a double game week in the WSL, Matt and Nick also talk about their plans for Aerial Fantasy as brothers continue their apprenticeship in the Women's Super League.You can get in touch with us on the following platforms...InstagramYouTubeTik-TokBlue Sky X (mainly known as Twitter)And when it comes to Fantasy leagues and codes, you can play FPL against us via the code BN59SG. • 15. How Should Clubs Manage Their Iconic Players?

    32:17||Season 1, Ep. 15
    We open the show with Nick talking about the AFC Croydon Christmas party, the club's recent victory over East Grinstead and how, as a new Rams Ultra, he is creating new chants at the Mayfield Stadium!The lads then turn their attention to the end of Chelsea Women's 585 day unbeaten streak with a 1-0 defeat to Everton. As Nick says, "Chelsea didn't have the teeth for the Toffees." However, like Blues Legend Lucy Bronze, Matt and Nick are philosophical about the loss as, amongst other things, it shows that the Women's Super League is becoming more competitive.We then come to our question of the week which, in the aftermath of Mo Salah's media outburst after Liverpool's 3-3 draw with Leeds, we ask..."how should clubs manage their iconic players once they are no longer automatic picks in the starting 11?"As ever, you can join the debate in the following ways...InstagramYouTubeTik-TokBlue Sky X (mainly known as Twitter)Please do comment, like, review and share the show to as many people as you possibly can!The songs used in this podcast are Duality and Where Do I Begin by the always amazing Sea of Days.
