NEWCASTLE (H) the verdict .... Magpies downed by rampant Robins

Season 7, Ep. 1
•

We've all been around long enough not to get too carried away by a 4-1 pre-season friendly win against Premier League side Newcastle United but there was much to admire about City as they raced to a 3 goal lead inside 50 minutes.

Newcastle fans numbered 3400 in an incredible match attendance (21500) for a friendly with all in the ground standing for a minutes applause to celebrate the life of Kevin Keegan who recently passed away.

Eddie Howe resigned as Newcastle's manager less than 24 hours after the final whistle and even allowing for his team's training schedule being behind City they did not sparkle at all.

Dave Tovey hosts the match review with Richard Angell, Adam Taylor & David Pottier

  • 16. STOKE CITY [A] ........ weather spoils game but point the reward for a gritty display

    01:40:45||Season 7, Ep. 16
    Only one goal from open play in the last 5 games as City gained a point in a 0-0 borefest at the wet & windy Bet365 Stadium.Tolaj & Willams returned after injury but the big talking point on the starting line up was goalkeeper Sam Tickle being dropped allowing Brad Collins to make his debut. He didn't let his team mates down.Skubala still seems to be in search of his best starting X1 and in this game totally altered the team formation with a switch from 4-2-3-1 to 5-3-2.DaveP discusses the game with Ant Banks, Dave Tovey & Simon Mann
  • 15. SHEFF UTD. [H] the verdict .... patience starting to wear a bit thin

    01:30:50||Season 7, Ep. 15
    A second home defeat of the week and this time we didn't even have an opening spell deserving of taking a lead, Yu's pathetic shot the only attempt before Arblaster scored what proved to be the winner with just 5 minutes played.Difficult to take anything positive away from the game. A poor performance but neither Skubala or Knight seemed overly concerned in their post match interviews. As for our skipper, he gets a roasting from the panel as based on the 85 minutes being on he pitch he feeling is he has mentally checked out with a summer transfer away already in his mind, Drop him and take away the captaincy is called for!
  • 14. BLACKBURN [H] the verdict ..... a tale of two goalkeepers

    01:20:33||Season 7, Ep. 14
    City would have had the game most likely won within half an hour had Toth in the Blackburn goal not denied Ballard twice with saves of the highest order.Blackburn's only shot on target in the whole game ended in the back of the net. It proved to be the matchwinner but for City keeper Tickle it will give him nightmares should he choose to watch the replay!Skubala's football is proving a hard watch and the fans patience at Ashton Gate will be tested if they are not soon lifted from their slumber - only 3 goals in 6 home games to stir them so far this season.
  • 13. CHARLTON (A) the verdict ..... a point that was fully deserved in a bitty display

    01:31:01||Season 7, Ep. 13
    City were sluggish in the early stages at The Valley and deservedly fell a goal behind before Twine's penalty equaliser.Not a great performance with the main talking points being more appalling refereeing decisions and just how good, or not, is keeper Sam Tickle - a worldy save from Knibbs at the end which secured the point but worryingly inconsistent in certain aspects of his game.
  • 12. WATFORD [H] the verdict ...... Ballard strike secures all three points

    01:35:11||Season 7, Ep. 12
    City go into the international break in 8th place and few would argue that 13 points on the board from 8 games has exceeded expectations.Regulars Ant Banks, Dave Tovey and host David Pottier are joined by City supporter Simon Mann of BBC 5 LIVE's Test Match Special team.The game is reviewed in depth alongside everyone's view on where we are at this early point in the 3 year project.
  • 11. LINCOLN CITY [H] the verdict ....... a night to forget for everyone, particularly RobDickie

    01:07:35||Season 7, Ep. 11
    Skubala's former assistants got one over on their old boss as the Imps secured all 3 points with unable to breakdown their resolute defensive line.Rob Dickie's error led to the only goal and the City defender then suffered the trauma of being stretchered off with what looked a very serious leg injjury
  • 10. SOUTHAMPTON [H] the verdict ...... the scoreline did not reflect a decent performance

    01:10:41||Season 7, Ep. 10
    City failed to convert a handful of real goal chances as they dominated the first half at St. Mary's Stadium. The home side had one chance and took it before the break and increased their lead just after it due to the officials not understanding the rules of the game!Tolaj put City back in with a shout on the hour but Skubala's subs didn't work and sloppy defending late on allowed the Saints to score two more.Question marks over Dickie from the panel of DaveP, Adam Taylor and Neil Sutton as Dave Tovey hosts the debate
  • 9. BURNLEY [A] the verdict .... Yu's injury time winner capped a fine performance

    01:14:08||Season 7, Ep. 9
    A third win in a row is no mean feat and the fact that at Turf Moor City went on to achieve after going down to a goal in a match they had dominated shows the fighting spirit Michael Skubala is instilling into the players.Everyone played their part in a game that has made City's start to the season so impressive.DaveP debates the action with Ant, Adam & Paul
  • 8. PRESTON [A] the verdict ...... a recipe for success: winning without playing well!

    01:26:06||Season 7, Ep. 8
    City had the perfect start at Deepdale when a flowing move after just 3 minutes ended with Scott Twine scoring from close range. What followed was not pretty and when the home side levelled after 51 minutes it was the least they deserved.Skubala shook things up on the hour and was rewarded when goals from Eisatt & Ballard wrapped up the points
