The Green Berets (1968)

Ep. 164

We are back for the first episode of 2024! We delve into 1968's The Green Berets starring and directed (sort of) by the Duke himself, John Wayne! The film is infamously one of the very few Pro-Vietnam war films to be made, the plot concerning a team of Green Berets reinforcing a firebase in South Vietnam in the early 1960s.

Does the film hit the mark and say anything about the American involvement in Vietnam? Or does it fail drastically in delivering its jingoistic message? Join the boys to find out!

  • 193. Under Heavy Fire/Going Back (2001)

    01:05:26||Ep. 193
    Casper Van Dien stars in 2001s 'Under Heavy Fire' also known as 'Going Back' in some regions. Directed by Sidney J. Furie, the film has an interesting premise with Van Dien playing Captain Ramsey, a US Marine Corps Vietnam War veteran, who accompanies a documentary crew as they go back to Vietnam with members of his old Company as they attempt to find out exactly what happened when he did (or maybe did not) cause an accident that caused the death of troops under his command. This makes for a film that is trope and cliche heavy with an ending that must be seen to be believed...Check out our website for more - www.fightingonfilm.comWe are thrilled to be partnered with www.warfaremedia.net who have an incredible range of Cold War posters! Pierre Schoendoerffer's 1965 film 'The 317th Platoon' follows an ill-fated French platoon as they attempt to reach a village held by friendly forces during the final days of the battle of Bien Dien Phu. Shot in black and white in Cambodia around the time of the U.S. ramping up their military involvement in Vietnam, the film depicts jungle combat with a stark realism often unseen in Western cinema of that era.
