Listen as they take you through their collections piece by piece, revealing the thought process behind the work of some of fashion’s upcoming visionaries and stars.Today, is a conversation with Ranura Edirisinghe. Ranura is a British designer in his second and last year of the prestigious MA Fashion course at Central Saint Martins. Vanessa and Lily have been shadowing Ranura in the process leading up to his final collection. Ranura takes them through some of the pieces from his collection Five Minute Crafts, which will be presented on March 25 as part of the digital Central Saint Martins MA Fashion showcase. Ranura is interested in elevating craft as well as highlighting its democratic nature. He has created this collection with three main concepts in mind. You will hear him refer to these as workshops. They are a Batik workshop with artisans in Sri Lanka. A Tactile workshop inspired by Italian artist and designer Bruno Munari’s Tactile Workshops where children were encouraged to explore their sense of touch and understanding of texture. And finally, the Making workshop inspired by children’s books from the 1980s and 1990s about making at home.
