They discuss their stand out moments along with giving advice for students about to receive their Leaving Certificate results at the end of the month.Our main guest is Wexford native Méabh Byrne who was one of five Women in Agriculture Ambassador finalists. The 24-year-old from comes from a busy dairy and tillage farm and has a passion for animal care that started young. She works as a farm manager advisor with DeLaval while staying active on the family farm which she is now the herd owner. Méabh encourages listeners to have the succession conversation early and back yourself.

On this week’s Youngstock Podcast, Meath native Alan Crowe joins Sarah McIntosh to discuss his role as breed secretary for the Irish Hereford Breed Society. With a background steeped in showing and commercial sheep, Alan talks about his interest in agriculture and decision to study animal science in University College Dublin. Having completed a PhD on IVF and embryo transfer in UCD and Teagasc, Alan was appointed the breed secretary in 2024.Over the last two years he has driven on the Hereford society which now has over 900 members.It is a busy week for the society as not only are they preparing for the Tullamore show, but they will also host the 17th European Hereford Conference in Kilkenny. Running for five nights, the conference will encompass two days of herd tours of some of the top pedigree breeders in Ireland as well as attendance at the National Hereford Show in Tullamore Show.
