Everything Is Content

Eyebrow blindness, forgiving bullies and athletes in lingerie

Season 1

Who wants some content?! Join Beth, Ruchira and Oenone as we take a look at some of the most talked about pop culture stories of the week.

We discuss TikTok diagnosing everybody with so-called "eyebrow blindness"… is there ever a good time to tell someone their make-up looks bad? We also discuss Katy Wix’s powerful yet divisive piece for the Observer about forgiving her childhood bully and a new lingerie campaign featuring international rugby players - is this 2016 girlboss feminism all over again, and why do we place so much importance on being beautiful above all else?

Make sure you go back and listen to our two deep dives on beauty and ageing if you want to hear more about some of the topics we discuss in this episode!

  • Holding Space for a Wickedly Weird Press Tour

    01:02:08|
    What is this feeling so sudden and new? Yes, Beth, Ruchira and Oenone saw Wicked and they're not afraid to report back. Welcome to a very special, very magical (and very juicy) Wicked episode. Listen to find out their review of the year's biggest blockbuster. There were lots of tears... from Cynthia and Ariana. How did the rollout for Wicked turn out so unhinged? Is this an example of theatre kid behaviour and unrestrained earnestness, or something darker? Also, could this set the new bar for what movie marketing looks like from now on? Say what you want but every minute of Wicked's BTS has gone viral. Thanks for listening to this week's episode. We especially adore those who tune in for our bonus eps, follow and rate us five stars. Is that you? • 19. The Troubles, A Troubling Interview & The Metrics Of Sexiness

    49:54||Season 2, Ep. 19
    Beth, Ruchira and Oenone have been watching, listening and reading... as always. This week, they've all been binging the new historical drama, Say Nothing. The new nine part Disney Plus show is an adaptation of Patrick Redden Keefe’s bestselling book of the same name. The book came out in 2018, the series just dropped last week. It follows closely to the narrative of the book, which was about the Troubles, the IRA, the provisional IRA and a now notorious woman at the centre of it all, Dolours Price.Next up, in an interview with Eva Wiseman for the Observer, actor and director Rebecca Hall says she doesn’t regret working with Woody Allen - a statement which unsurprisingly inspired many a headline. Shockingly, this wasn't the only viral moment of the piece, as Hall also detailed her unconventional wedding to husband and fellow actor Morgan Spector.And lastly, would you want a Sexiest Woman of The Year Award? Or is the men's one already bad enough? In a piece for Grazia titled '‘Sexiest Man Alive’: Here’s Why Lusting Over Men Is Different To Lusting Over Women', the writer Nikki Peach argues that the world is not yet evolved enough for this to happen. Do you agree?Thank you so much for listening - Please make sure you're following us both here on your podcast app and on Instagram & TikTok @everythingiscontentpod and if you fancy leaving us a rating or review... we heard 5 stars is nice this time of year.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------Ally McBealBreedersSay Nothing I, DoloursLucy Mangan, Say Nothing ReviewVulture Say NothingRebecca Hall Observer InterviewRebecca Hall brutally mocked over wild wedding day remarksOn People Magazine’s Sudden Interest in Black People for their “Sexiest Man Alive” CoverThe confusing recent history of People’s Sexiest Man Alive‘Sexiest Man Alive’: Here’s Why Lusting Over Men Is Different To Lusting Over WomenPeople Went With Mass Appeal for Its ‘Sexiest Man’

  • 17. Skincare Horror, Mid Movies and Kicking Kids Offline

    51:40||Season 2, Ep. 17
    For the second time this week Beth, Ruchira and Oenone are in your ears talking all things pop culture.First we're discussing Skincare- a film that sounds like it has all the active ingredients for glowing success. Elizabeth Banks stars as an aesthetician & skincare mogul whose life starts to wrinkle after being targeted on & offline. 5 stars or total wet flannel?Next up we're examining the charm of middlebrow movies- e.g. the films that don't break the box office or re-invent cinema but are perfectly good nonetheless. Where did they go and can we have them back before the Marvel and Mattel takeover is complete?Finally we're scrolling down under as Australia proposes plans to kick all kids off social media. The news has been met with both praise and criticism- could it actually do some good or is it too little too late from governments who haven't thought things through?Thank you so much for listening! Please make sure you're following us both here on your podcast app and on Instagram & TikTok @everythingiscontentpod and if you fancy leaving us a rating or review... we heard 5 stars is nice this time of year.----------- The Guardian - Bird Mad About The Boy TrailerLouis Theroux x Barry KeoghanOlive Kitteridge by Elizabeth StroutVariety - Skincare reviewEverything Is Content - May/DecemberVox - "Middlebrow" doesn't mean badYouTube - Matt Damon x Hot Ones CNBC - Australia plans to ban under 16s from social media The Guardian - America's tech bros now strut their stuff in the corridors of power

  • 15. Literary Dilemmas, Influencer Coaching & Boys vs Girls

    01:02:49||Season 2, Ep. 15
    Happy Friday (following the longest week of 2024).First up, artist and poet James Massiah has claimed that bestselling author Coco Mellors (Blue Sisters) brazenly based one of her characters on him. Beth, Ruchira and Oenone dig into the story and ask: just how much can artists borrow from real life, especially when inspiration comes from people around them? Also, would you sign up for an influencer academy? A New York Times feature dives into influencer Valeria Lipovetsky's new and exclusive scheme that promises to help budding influencers break into the industry. Is it a scam or a savvy business idea for everyone involved?And finally, a "global gender divide" is sweeping the world, as experts warn that more and more young men are voting right, as young women vote progressively. A political split is widening between the two everywhere from the UK, to South Korea and Tunisia. Are we f****d as a society? Thank you so much for listening to us. We love every single person who blasts us in their ears - especially those who follow us and gift us a 5* on their podcast app. ----------- https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/760838/fundamentally-by-nussaibah-younis/https://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/17/movies/anora-review.htmlhttps://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/b0b7r2k6/mortimer-whitehouse-gone-fishing https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/nov/04/london-poet-accuses-author-coco-mellors-of-basing-blue-sisters-character-on-himhttps://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/12/11/cat-personhttps://www.newyorker.com/books/page-turner/what-it-felt-like-when-cat-person-went-viralhttps://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/26/style/influencer-creator-method-valeria-lipovetsky.html https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-elections/exit-polls https://cawp.rutgers.edu/gender-gap-voting-choices-presidential-elections https://www.ft.com/content/29fd9b5c-2f35-41bf-9d4c-994db4e12998
