  • 46. Millennial Nostalgia, The Female Manosphere & A Women's Only Gym

    01:11:31||Season 2, Ep. 46
    Happy Everything Is Content day & Happy Friday!Ruchira is back from her holiday... We're SO back... but we're also so sorry to tell you that we’re now old enough that Gen Z are romanticising the 2010s. After years of us Millennials being an absolute joke to them, they’re now craving a life of Buzzfeed, hipster myspace and American Apparel disco pants. We ask what it is about Millennial culture that is so cringe, but also, somehow better than whatever is going on right now.Next up, women in male dominated fields! Beth found a really interesting article on the website Semafor by Max Tani called “Young conservative women build an alternative to the manosphere.” And in the piece Tani explores several key female right wing creators who are now building empires and audiences in a way that feels very new and separate to the existing right wing media, which has historically been very male-dominated, often headed by controversial middle aged men who focus on recruiting young men into the fold and tend to espouse really misogynistic views that aren’t particularly appealing to women anywhere on the political spectrum. Was it only a matter of time before we got a femosphere?And lastly, our timelines have been absolutely ablaze this week after Natalee Barnett, founder of the women's only gym, The Girls Spot, went back on her 2021 statement that her gym would be inclusive of trans women. We share our thoughts!We hope you enjoy, as always please do rate, review and remember to follow on your podcast player app :)In Production Partnership with Cue PodcastsBeth's been loving, Everyone In This Room Will Someday Be Dead, Letter LoopRuchira's been loving, Hacks, A Real PainOenone's been loving, I Found A Body, White Lotus Recap PodMillennial Redemption Arc Substack@romulusedits TikTokYoung conservative women build an alternative to the manosphereWhat’s Going On With the Pretty Little Thing Rebrand?Influencer’s U-turn on decision to set up trans-inclusive gym sparks massive backlash online

  • 42. White Lotus & Bridget Jones

    55:55||Season 2, Ep. 42
    Happy Friday and even happier Everything Is Content day! This week the pod is missing our beloved Ruchira (on hols) but are determined to put on a good and- frankly chaotic- show until she’s back in our arms.First up we talk about everyone’s favourite luxury murder show White Lotus. Who are we loving, hating and hoping ends up dead by the end? Plus- is this latest series a familiar high-end hotel romp or a little too much of what we’ve seen before? Then we get firmly stuck into the latest Bridget Jones instalment. Which of us cried the most? Who got more drunk? What did we think of Mark Darcy’s demise? Which hunk did we want her to end up with? And is Bridget Jones a feminist hero, a self-hating hack or a secret third option? Listen to find out!We hope you like (love) this episode just the way it is and if so… why not leave us a 5* rating and/or tell the world about us on social media? • 40. Porn - A Deep Dive (Part Two)

    56:33||Season 2, Ep. 40
    Happy Friday! Last week we dropped the first part of our EIC special on porn, looking at the creators and platforms taking over the industry. This week our (highly anticipated) second part looks at the people behind the screens: the consumers.First up, why is porn addiction such a divisive topic among academics? And does it even exist? We answer that question and look at the deeper issues contributing to widespread compulsive porn-use.Next, we look at the rise of non-consensual user-generated porn i.e. deepfakes and revenge porn, and the fact young people are accessing this content. Finally, ethical porn has promised to right the wrongs of an often exploitative, discriminatory industry. Just how true is this, and can porn ever ethically be consumed?In Production Partnership with Cue Podcasts-----------Psyche: If you think you’ve got a porn addiction, you probably haven’tBBC: Is 'porn addiction' a real thing?Children’s Commissioner: ‘A lot of it is actually just abuse’- Young people and pornographyChannel 4: My Deepfake PornThe Guardian: Vicky Pattison: My Deepfake Sex Tape review Girlguiding: Girls face a crisis of confidence in an unequal world
