Harry Potter Holidays Part 1 (The Sorcerer’s Stone and The Chamber of Secrets + The Family Stone, Hamnet, & Jay Kelly)
We’re kicking off the holiday season with a Harry Potter marathon! These are books and movies we grew up with, and they always are staples around Christmastime. We also talk a little bit about the Golden Globe nominations, the Warner/Netflix/Paramount deal, the new Zendaya and Robert Pattinson movie “The Drama”, and Hannah’s rewatch of Silver Linings Playbook. Luckily, Hamnet came to a theater near us so we were able to catch a showing. This film moved us both so deeply and we were unbelievably impressed by Jessie Buckley’s performance. Jay Kelly also dropped on Netflix earlier this week, and we couldn’t wait to watch. This one definitely felt very true to the industry experience, and we felt that George Clooney and Adam Sandler gave raw performances. While we heard that this one might not completely be understood by those not in the film industry, we found it to be very relatable as everyone ages and reflects on their life.
This week, we started our Harry Potter marathon and watched The Sorcerer’s Stone and The Chamber of Secrets. Since these are the early films, the CGI isn’t the best, but that’s just a sign of the times. These films are so magical, and we’re excited to watch the rest of them over the next few weeks! We also continued to add our holiday film into the mix and chose The Family Stone this week. We know this one is a little divisive, but we can’t really see why. If you haven’t seen this one in a while and weren’t a fan, it’s definitely time to give it a second chance!

54. Actors as Directors (The Lost Daughter, Is This Thing On?, The Testament of Ann Lee)
01:16:39||Season 2, Ep. 54This week on Two Girl Cinema Club, we’re focusing on actors who made the transition to directing. Before we dive into this week’s theme, Ailish shares her thoughts on Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, and Hannah talks about Stopmotion and Clown in a Cornfield. We also talk about some upcoming releases and our plans to see The Drama opening weekend! There have been many actors who have dipped their toes in directing, and we tackle a few of them in this week’s episode. We started with Maggie Gyllenhaal and her directing debut with The Lost Daughter. This one felt appropriate since we recently watched The Bride!, and we had mixed feelings. The Lost Daughter has a completely different feeling compared to Gyllenhaal’s most recent endeavour, but both films felt a bit underdone to us. We actually really enjoyed Dakota Johnson in this role which isn’t something we saw often. Is This Thing On? is Bradley Cooper’s third film as a director. Each of his films have had very different vibes as well, and Is This Thing On? has the most casual/lighthearted feeling of the three. We both enjoyed this one, but we felt the separate paths of Laura Dern and Will Arnett’s characters could have been expanded on. Adding The Testament of Ann Lee by Mona Fastvold is a little bit of a stretch, but Fastvold has acted in the past. This was a film we had been waiting to see for months, so when we finally saw it on streaming, we couldn’t pass it up! After watching, it’s clear the calls for an Oscar snub are warranted. If you love us, leave us comments on social media and YouTube, or write a review with your 5-star rating. 53. Remembering the Greats: Diane Keaton (Annie Hall, Father of the Bride, The First Wives Club, Book Club)
01:36:40||Season 2, Ep. 53This week on Two Girl Cinema Club, we remember the late, great, Diane Keaton who we lost nearly six months ago. Before we discuss her filmography, Ailish gives her thoughts on Project Hail Mary, and the play, Dog Day Afternoon that she saw in NYC. Ailish was finally able to watch Materialists, so we were able to properly discuss the film. Hannah also shared that TMZ unfortunately spoiled the twist in The Drama when the movie wasn’t even set to be widely released for another week.Sadly, we lost multiple icons in 2025 and Diane Keaton was one of them. We started this week’s episode by watching Annie Hall which neither of us had seen. This was a cute and funny film overall, but it really is marred by the allegations and controversies surrounding Woody Allen. Since he made himself the main character, it’s really difficult to fully separate him from this classic. Keaton takes a backseat in Father of the Bride, but still shines bright. This is such a cute film and Steve Martin is the classic, stressed dad. The First Wives Club is one of the great films about female friendships. It’s hard to believe these ladies aren’t actual lifetime friends because their chemistry is unbelievable! Lastly, we watched Book Club which is another sweet film that explores female friendships and relationships as we age. Can we recruit a couple more ladies to join our future book club?!If you love us, leave us comments on social media and YouTube, or write a review with your 5-star rating. 52. Celebrating Paul Thomas Anderson + Oscars Talk and The Bride! (Magnolia, Boogie Nights, Licorice Pizza)
01:20:53||Season 2, Ep. 52Paul Thomas Anderson won big at last weekend’s Oscars with One Battle After Another. To celebrate this, we decided this week’s theme should explore some films from his career! Before we dive into that, we recap some highlights from the Oscar ceremony and talk about some of the big winners. Ailish also shared some industry news and both of us gave our takes on Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride!. While we weren’t overly enthusiastic about this film as a whole, we did appreciate the creativity and the idea of new ideas coming to the big screen. We began our PTA theme with Boogie Nights. It’s honestly difficult to believe that he wrote and directed this when he was about 26 because it’s such an impressive film. We love Mark Wahlberg in this and wish he did more films with this kind of energy. Magnolia is a film that we had both heard a lot about, especially after the release of Weapons. This is an example of a lot going on at the same time, but the way it’s all presented and how it comes together makes it effective and allows things to become more clear. Tom Cruise is everything in this and it makes us excited for Digger later this year. Unfortunately, Licorice Pizza did not work for us. The age-gap romance was disturbing to us and the overall film didn’t flow like we’d hoped. If you love us, leave us comments on social media and YouTube, or write a review with your 5-star rating. 51. Revisiting the 2025 Oscars Part 2 + Love is Blind Reunion (I’m Still Here, Dune: Part 2, A Complete Unknown)
02:11:54||Season 2, Ep. 51We’re continuing to revisit last year’s Best Picture nominees with the Oscars happening this Sunday. Before we dive into our thoughts on that, we recap the first two episodes of Euphoria Season 2 and the Love is Blind Reunion. After last week’s finale, we were eager to see how the couples are doing and there were definitely some bombshells dropped! We also gave our review of Pillion, and Ailish shared her take on Blue Moon with Ethan Hawke. In preparation for the Oscars this Sunday, we give our Oscar predictions. While we make choices based on how we’d like to take home the prize and who we actually think will, there aren’t any nominees that we wouldn’t be happy with. It was a great year for films! Taking a step back to last year’s Best Picture nominees, we watched three more films this week. We rewatched A Complete Unknown which we felt got slighted last year with zero wins. Timmy really did portray Bob Dylan fantastically and he probably should have taken home the award. We also watched Dune: Part 2 which also stars Chalamet. Visually, this film is incredible and we can’t wait to watch the third installment on the big screen this winter. Lastly, we watched I’m Still Here for the first time. This was a harrowing account of a terrible time in Brazil’s history and it was depicted with emotion and intrigue. 50. Revisiting the 2025 Oscars + Love is Blind Season 10 Review (The Brutalist, Anora, The Substance)
02:18:40||Season 2, Ep. 50This week on Two Girl Cinema Club, we flashback to last year and watch some of the 2025 Best Picture nominees. Before we dive into some of those films, we give a thorough review of Love is Blind season 10 now that the finale has dropped. We reveal a couple connections to some of the people featured on this season as fellow Ohioans, and give all our thoughts on which couples we think will last. If Christine and Vic don’t last forever, we’ll actually lose our minds! Ailish brought some industry news and award talk after the Actor (SAG) Awards last weekend, and Hannah watched a few movies this week. She gives an honest review of Scream 7 as a fan of the franchise, and Annihilation with Natalie Portman. If you remember our podcasts from this time last year, you’ll remember that we loved The Substance and Anora. We’re happy to report that after rewatching these films, they still really hold up for us and we actually think we like them more after watching again. There’s still some debate within ourselves on whether we think Mikey Madison or Demi Moore should have won the Oscar, but both of them give great performances in these films. It might be hard to believe, but watching The Substance was almost more disturbing at times as we watched it at home! The Brutalist was a very discussed film last year, but it was one neither of us were able to see. After watching over three hours of this, we have to say we aren’t fans. Adrian Brody did a great job in his role, however, the role didn’t give very much. Make sure to listen next week as we give all our Oscars predictions and review some more films from last year’s Best Picture nominees! If you love us, leave us comments on social media and YouTube, or write a review with your 5-star rating. 49. Black Stories Part 2 (The Butler, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Get Out, Moonlight)
01:51:41||Season 2, Ep. 49This week, we’re celebrating Black History Month with Black Stories Part 2. We really have a great mix of genres and vibes here that made this week a fun one. Before we dug into our theme, Hannah shared her thoughts on her rewatch of Marie Antoinette and The Shape of Water. We also talked a little bit about our Oscar predictions after the BAFTAs, and talked about some of the criticisms of Sirat and our feelings on the film.Moving into Black Stories Part 2, we started with Get Out. This is a pretty iconic film that uses the horror genre to dive into some heavy discussions on race. We agreed this was our second favorite Jordan Peele film with Us being our top pick. How Stella Got Her Groove Back is a fun, romantic film that tries to send your emotions on a roller coaster. Whoopi Goldberg is shining in yet another supporting role, and it’s hard to deny the sheer beauty of Angela Bassett and Taye Diggs on screen. Our last two films of the week are pretty heavy. The Butler tackles the struggles that Black Americans have faced for decades and shows two different perspectives between generations. The heavy themes and visuals make this one a difficult watch at times, but we felt it would have been stronger if the focus was primarily on the Cecil character. Finally, we have Moonlight. What more can we say about his gut wrenching film? Some criticisms of this one say the main character lacks depth, but we feel the exact opposite and love how he is portrayed through the three stages of the film.If you love us, leave us comments on social media and YouTube, or write a review with your 5-star rating. 48. The “Wuthering Heights” Experience + Sandra Bullock RomComs
02:06:08||Season 2, Ep. 48This week on Two Girl Cinema Club, we share all our thoughts on “Wuthering Heights”. Much to our surprise, enjoying the movie is a controversial take! Hannah also watched Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model and Love is Blind Ohio. We watched ANTM when it originally aired, so maybe we have a different perspective on the early 2000s reality tv, but we aren’t hopping on the ANTM hate train. Ailish also shared that Mia Goth and Andrew Scott are set to film FONDA and Jacob Elordi is rumored to have been offered James Bond by Amazon.Sandra Bullock was America’s darling for a couple decades and continues to be a household name today. This week, we watched a couple early romcoms of hers and the one that’s the most popular. Hope Floats is one of Bullock’s earliest films and it stars the iconic Gena Rowlands. This one didn’t really work for us overall, and we didn’t feel the chemistry or script worked well. We were surprised to see Forest Whitaker directed this film after watching Waiting to Exhale last week! While You Were Sleeping actually has a very strange and creepy plot, but it’s excused by how sweet Bullock is. It’s a pretty classic 90s romcom that makes for a good comfort watch. Finally we have The Proposal. This film really put Ryan Reynolds on the map and it is arguably his best role. Bullock looks unbelievable in this film, but the jokes didn’t land as hard for us this time around. If you love us, leave us comments on social media and YouTube, or write a review with your 5-star rating. 47. Breakup Films (Blue Valentine, Marriage Story, Waiting to Exhale,Someone Great) + The Smashing Machine Review
01:39:56||Season 2, Ep. 47Continuing with our February theme, Two Girl Cinema Club explored some Breakup Films this week. Some of these films were more iconic than others, but they all brought some unique topics and themes into our conversation. We’re also prepping for “Wuthering Heights” and can’t wait to see it in IMAX this weekend. Ailish also was able to see The Moment and gave her thoughts on Charli xcx’s new endeavor. We start Breakup Films week with Someone Great. This was very millennial, and not in a good way. Even though it was released in 2019, it felt really dated overall and we would have believed it if someone told us it was filmed in 2002. Waiting to Exhale was a blindspot for both of us, and we were glad we added it to our list. The cast of ladies were relatable and gorgeous, and we loved the inner dialogue of the women playing as a voiceover throughout. Marriage Story and Blue Valentine are in the same vein, but the latter was definitely more impactful. There’s something about the casting and script that feels so much more natural in Blue Valentine, and it’s impossible to not feel the chemistry between Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling. 46. Tragic Love Stories (Ghost, Titanic, A Walk to Remember, The Fault in Our Stars)
01:40:23||Season 2, Ep. 46February is here and we’re celebrating the month of love by watching some tragic love stories unfold on film. Before we talk about these tear-jerkers, we catch up on a few other films we watched this week. Ailish rewatched Uncut Gems and The Place Beyond the Pines, Hannah watched Megan 2.0 and Black Bag for the first time, and we chatted about the rumors surrounding the Safdie Brother’s split. Ghost is a film with two stars at the center who were at the top of their game. If you say the potter’s wheel scene doesn’t make you swoon, you’re definitely lying! Whoopi Goldberg really steals the show here, but the longing and sorrow depicted by Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze really pulls at your heart strings. It’s hard to believe that the same person who created Avatar, created the masterpiece that is Titanic. What more is there to even say about this film? Leo and Kate Winslet have never looked better, and the score takes your breath away. Our last two films play on your emotions in multiple ways because terminal illnesses come into play. A Walk to Remember is the classic story of young love that is tragically broken apart too soon. Mandy Moore plays the preacher’s daughter well, and Shane West is the perfect bad boy turned good. Finally, we have The Fault in Our Stars. It’s very clear upon rewatching as an adult that this is based on a YA novel. This might have struck us as teens, but it doesn’t translate now that we’re slightly older. If you love us, leave us comments on social media and YouTube, or write a review with your 5-star rating.
