61: Mind Over Munchies: Raising Balanced Eaters and Building Healthy Food Relationships with Fiona Kane.

Season 2, Ep. 61

Welcome back, everyone! This week, we're diving into a topic that hits home for so many of us: how we talk about food with our kids (and perhaps even around them when we think they’re not listening).

I’m joined by the fabulous Fiona Kane, an award-winning Nutritional Medicine Practitioner and Mind Body Eating Coach, and we explored how our words and attitudes around food can set the stage for our kids’ relationship with eating (and emotions!) - and yes, how we can keep it healthy too.

We’ll chat about the accidental ways we nudge our kids toward emotional eating (who knew?), how our own beliefs about food can rub off on them, and why asking open-ended questions can be a game-changer for a more mindful approach.

Fiona, who’s been all over Sky News Australia, 9 News, and ABC Radio, brings her practical tips on breaking habits like boredom eating and finding joy outside of food—for both us and the kids.

So, if you’re looking to raise happy, healthy eaters (or tackle a few food habits of your own), plug in!

This episode is packed with aha moments and doable steps to help the whole family enjoy a balanced relationship with food. I loved our conversation and I know you will too.

  • 60. 60: How We Failed As New Parents with Steph and Alex.

    26:16||Season 2, Ep. 60
    Today, we're pulling back the curtain on our parenting - and let’s just say, it wasn’t all sunshine and Instagram-worthy moments. This is a bunch of things we wish we knew when we first became parents...With Alex's childhood blueprint and programming the *polar opposite* of mine, we had a lot to unlearn (and re-learn) when it came to navigating the chaos of parenthood together. We talk about: - How giving each other space saved us from spiralling arguments. - Why you should never take your kids’ words, or your partner’s emotions, personally. - Alex’s journey to taking accountability and breaking the cycle of reactive behaviour. - My struggle to ask for help and express my feelings (spoiler: it wasn’t pretty). - The power of understanding emotional hijacks and knowing when to step out of the situation- How to “strike when the iron is cold.” to prevent shame, blame and basically more conflict.We’ll also explore how his upbringing (where emotions basically didn't exist) impacted our dynamic and how we’ve worked to defuse problems before they explode into snapping and snowballing. It’s real, raw, and maybe even a little uncomfortable—but if you’ve ever felt like you’re failing as a parent or partner, trust us, you’re not alone. Tune in for honest lessons, practical tips, and a whole lot of heart.Hope you guys enjoy.(Please ask us questions! Send us your feedback! • 59. 59: How to Get The Happier, Calmer and Connected Family You Want With Emotional Intelligence

    36:40||Season 2, Ep. 59
    Today I’m sharing an episode where I was the guest – being interviewed by JoAnn Crohn and Brie Tucker on the No Guilt Mom podcast. So, you’ve decided you want a happier, calmer, and more connected family, eh? Well, friend, welcome to the rollercoaster ride known as “parenting with emotional intelligence.” Parenting often involves navigating different styles, which, being 100% honest, can sometimes feel like you and your partner are in a three-legged race…on ice.  Emotional intelligence helps you understand each other’s perspectives and find common ground. Just imagine your kid having the ability to understand and manage their emotions while empathizing with others. Sounds like a dream, right?  By nurturing emotional intelligence, you’re not just preparing them for playground politics but equipping them for life’s bigger challenges. Plus, who wouldn’t want a kid who can articulate their feelings instead of falling apart or throwing things in fits of anger? So, if you’re dreaming of a happier, calmer, and more connected family, emotional intelligence is your secret weapon. Trust me, the journey might be bumpy, but the destination is oh-so-worth it.  Who knows, you might even become that zen parent who handles those spaghetti-throwing incidents with a smile. Now, that’s emotional intelligence at work! Podcast: https://www.noguiltmom.com/podcast-2/Transcript: https://www.noguiltmom.com/how-to-get-the-happier-calmer-and-connected-family/YT: https://www.youtube.com/c/NoGuiltMom
