The Emma Guns Show
Wim Hof | Breathe, motherf*cker!
Wim Hof is a Dutch extreme athlete, adventurer and world record holder who created The Wim Hof Method to help people unlock a host of physical and mental health benefits.
While Wim is an extreme athlete who has climbed into the Death Zone of Mount Everest and completed a full marathon above the polar circle in just a pair of shorts, his method is accessible to anyone.
It’s based on three pillars: cold therapy, breathing and commitment and with consistent practice Wim has shown its ability to increase energy, improve sleep, reduce stress, heighten focus and determination, increase willpower and strengthen the immune system.
And for anyone who, as I often as my guests on the podcast, wants to see the data, he welcomes scientists to scrutinise and validate his claims.
In this episode @iceman_hof and I discuss:
- The power and fortitude that exists within us all and how to access it.
- How the benefits he felt from cold exposure and breath work is now being validated in labs under clinical supervision.
- He isn’t a ‘freak of nature’ anyone can do what he does.
- Why a ‘cold shower a day keeps the doctor away’.
- How forcing yourself to experience discomfort, such as cold, only amplifies the pleasure you feel from the warmth.
- Why it’s vital not to limit yourself; sometimes pushing your limits is where you find out who you are.
- Why failure is a vital part of life and how to handle it and learn from it when it happens, and so much more…
Please use caution and seek advice, where appropriate, when attempting any exercises, especially in water.

24:34|In this week's Bullet Points, I discuss the Gregg Wallace scandal, a huge topic in the UK this week. I share my thoughts having worked with Gregg previously. As London is 'crowned' the Phone Theft Capital of Europe, I share how a trip to London changed my perspective and how it has influenced my behaviour in the city. Finally, I share a useful hack that might help you focus more. 36:26|The power of the re-frame is something to explore in this episode of the podcast. I've set the bar quite high for myself in the past, especially professionally, and this year has been about relaxing that tight grip on 'success'. However, it has been a puzzler simply because a lot of the positive steps I've taken to relieve some of that pressure are the things I'd do when I was struggling with depression. In one instance, it allowed me to withdraw from the world, in another it's allowed me to show up as a better version of myself. So what's the difference? Also in this episode, I ponder whether being too self-aware is a fast-track to anxiety and I lose the pot over the current 'it' body cream.Email me at office@emmaguns.comSubscribe and comment on my Substack: https://emmaguns.substack.com/Follow me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/emmaguns/Listen to the #EmmaGunsShow for free on:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/episode/6goNFPSxewG2CiP4nBcNNY?si=1448e83ed0c84479Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-emma-guns-show/id1102982843?i=1000599251800or search 'Emma Guns' wherever you listen to your podcasts.Bullet Points | Black Friday Madness, The Wicked press tour is a bit much? 20:05|On this episode, let's talk about how the super short days are making it harder to regulate mood (read: be in a good one!), how the Wicked film press tour is quite the sight to behold and how Black Friday has gone from being a day to a month-long extravaganza.
