Jessica Baum | Are you 'anxiously attached' in your relationships?

Ep. 243

In this episode, I'm joined by psychotherapist and couple's counsellor Jessica Baum to discuss attachment theory and how to move away from anxious and toward secure attachments.

Anxious attachment can look one of two ways. There’s anxious-ambivalent attachment, which can look like neediness and can go hand-in-hand with low self-esteem. They may crave connection but are always fearful that people don’t want to be with them. There’s a fear of rejection or abandonment, which may make them clingy

Then there’s anxious-avoidant where people will avoid connecting with others and may rely on themselves and find confronting emotions difficult. These people may look confident and self-sufficient but may be struggling to build healthy relationships.

The good news is that by deconstructing your attachment style, if any of this sounds familiar, and doing ‘the work’ Jessica goes into in the show, you can move away from anxious attachments towards secure ones.

Jessica's book Anxiously Attached is available now.

    01:04:52
This episode was originally published in February 2023.'m so glad to welcome Estée Lalonde back to the podcast, especially as this conversation coincides with some exciting developments in her professional and personal life. There's her body care brand Mirror Water and a new relationship...Her career is a truly incredible one: she followed her boyfriend to London, became a part of the beauty blogging community and has gone on to make her social media and Youtube a wildly successful business. She has shared her life with millions of followers and as she evolves from influencer to businesswoman, she's opening up about the highs and lows of taking huge risks, knowing what you want from life, people and relationships and why you have to advocate for yourself.I've known Estée for a few years now and I always come away from time spent with her feeling better for having seen the world through her eyes and, I'm just going to say it, I think this might be the best conversation I've had with her in the time we've known each other.Estée is always honest, real and straight-talking so hearing her share her life lessons with no filter whatsoever was a real eye-opener. • From the Vault | Dean Piper on the 'murky' world of celebrity journalism.

    01:09:22
This episode was originally published in February 2023.Dean Piper! I can't lie, I enjoyed this conversation with Dean immensely and actually found it to be an incredibly cathartic experience too.Dean and I were both 'celebrity journalists' at a time when celebrity journalism was called-in to editors via brick phones and gathered on the dancefloor at nightclubs or in the loos at award ceremonies. It was the era of celebrity weddings, showbiz couples with portmanteau nicknames and when daily sales of newspapers and magazines running showbiz gossip ran into the millions. However, while it was fun for a while, about ten years ago Dean turned his back on 'that life'. In fact, he didn't just turn on his heel, he walked out with no job to go to, no plan and no idea what the future would hold. This conversation details why Dean has never looked back, why he felt it was time to leave and how disappointed he is that in the ten years since he left, celebrity journalism has become so murky and destructive. We discuss some of his biggest regrets while working on tabloids, how he got some of his juiciest scoops back in the day and what happens, and who stops calling when you walk away from the most powerful job in showbiz. If you enjoy Dean's insights here then you'll love his Substack where he's writing a weekly column about his life in showbiz. To join the Facebook group for the podcast click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum. To follow me on social media >> Twitter | Instagram.Watch clips from the podcast >> Youtube | The Emma Guns ShowSign up for my newsletter here >> Newsletter.Subscribe now

  • Natalie Anderson | Small wins, big results!

    01:11:58
Talk about a great natter with a fantastic friend. Natalie Anderson is what you might describe as 'good energy', incredible company, good chat and always keen to pass on the latest snippet of advice to make someone else's life easier. That's one of the reasons she started The Capsule, a place where you canfind all of Natalie’s recommendations for a healthy, happy lifestyle - essentially taking the guesswork and legwork out of finding the things you need and the things you love. What she started talking about was her own experience with anxiety, something she kept private but started sharing solutions to on The Capsule before opening up about her own experiences and creating a community of women who felt the same and were as keen to find solutions and balms as she was. What started as a blog, following her time as a columnist at Hello magazine, has turned into a huge enterprise and I’m delighted to learn what more’s to come from Natalie and The Capsule and find out what’s working for her in 2024!To join the Facebook group for the podcast click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum. To follow me on social media >> Twitter | Instagram.Watch clips from the podcast >> Youtube | The Emma Guns ShowSign up for my newsletter here >> Newsletter.Subscribe now.

  • Trinny Woodall | Ending friendships, falling in love and becoming a CEO.

    01:17:34
Trinny's back and how things have changed since she last visited the podcast. Trinny London, her makeup and skincare brand, was a start-up and now it's a huge, global success. Dare I say, it's a big of a juggernaut now, which means the last few years have involved some steep learning curves for Trinny who has had to step up to the role of CEO. I find Trinny in a reflective mood on this occasion as we discuss ending toxic friendships, being open to love and the lessons one learns from navigating through the crappy stuff.Trinny's book Fearless is available now.To join the Facebook group for the podcast click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum. To follow me on social media >> Twitter | Instagram.Watch clips from the podcast >> Youtube | The Emma Guns ShowSign up for my newsletter here >> Newsletter.Subscribe now.
