Triathlete Iain Veitch Chases Dream in Algeria

Iain Veitch, a 44-year-old triathlete from Peebles, is aiming for his fifth win at the Edinburgh New Years Day triathlon and chasing a lifelong dream at the Saharaman race in Algeria. The race includes a 4km swim, 180km bike ride, and a full marathon run through sand dunes. Iain considers the swim the biggest challenge due to the cold water, and has prepared with saunas, extra layers, and a white racing suit. Despite a two-week illness from vaccines, Iains track record is impressive, including the fastest Celtman finish and winning Roc England with a broken tibia and torn ankle ligaments. In Edinburgh, Iain finished in 1:00:42, beating runner-up Scott Meldrum by nearly a minute. Nancy Corrie, a 15-year-old from Harmeny AC, won the womens race in 1:08:45 and placed 11th overall.
